Keep Sports During 6th Period

I am an Alumni and former assistant baseball coach that spent 7 years there! Doing this would be a disservice to the athletes and to the coaches. Maybe instead of trying to reinvent the wheel, the administration should spend more time looking at why other schools succeed in sports and academics. A lot of good student athletes have left, and so have coaches because the administration doesn't communicate their intentions effectively. The ones that did stay and graduate from there, now want nothing to do with the school. If the school wants to do better, maybe they should look into why that actually happened and fix the real problems that exist there because having sports during the last class of the day is not the problem.

I understand that Granada wants to keep their reputation for high academic standards but how is this going to help the kids who still want to be student athletes.

Time is a valuable thing.

We need the time after school for homework study's. This will make it even harder to keep up the teams grades.

There is no reason for our children to have PE when they are on a sports team. Please keep 6th period for sports.

Having attended GHCHS all four years of my high school career, practicing during 6th period was something that was normal. Once school was over, we continued to practice for another couple hours. Then there is school work and other obligations. I completed all requirements to graduate high school and on top of that my senior year I had half days since I no longer needed to take additional classes to graduate. I think keeping 6th period practice is important to those students who play sports. Especially during the winter months.

Why? I am a Granada Alum who played 2 sports and this sounds like an absolute disaster.

So now we will punish the student athletes who happen to have outside coaches. It seems as if the school is trying to punish the athletes in an effort to present itself as academically above everyone else. Most athletes at Granada are also excellent students with honors and AP courses, they excel in social skills, and they are athletic. Why does Granada want to punish them?

Seriously??? Who in their right mind would want to take away a positive activity for the kids. This puts smiles on their faces, gives them confidence, teaches team efforts, I could go on and on!

I have twins that both play sports and to change the current sports schedule would be devastating! Please don't! The students do well now!

This is incredibly disturbing to even consider this! My son is on the Varsity Baseball team. He has to leave the house before 7:00 a.m. every day so he can find street parking and be on time for Zero period. He rarely gets home until after 6:00 on game days then eats, studies and goes to bed. He has been able to maintain a 4.3 GPA after going through a major surgery in December and continued to attend all baseball practices and games. It is not right to add any more time to these kids already very long days! These student athletes have enough on their plates. It is VERY sad that GHCS has such little regard for how hard they work to maintain high grade point averages and excel in the sport they play. Being an athlete is like having a full time job and so is being a student. Don't make this any harder for them. Thank you, Deva D'Ull

Having a student athlete, it is essential that his grades not be impacted by decisions that will create significant challenges for my son to be competitive on and off the field. I adamantly oppose the proposed time change (including the elimination of a 5th period study hall). This change will have detrimental short term and long terms effects which are preventable by maintaining the current schedule as it is. Sincerely, Dr. Gabriella Ochoa Del Gaudio

Our kids already have long days and now you are making them longer.....in addition many of these kids have a life outside of GHCHS with their house of worship, club teams, scouts etc...and then it also cuts in to what little family time we have with these kids since they will be at school even later. Just because this is sports doesn't mean this kids should be treated any less than your Academic Decathalon team. Sports are just as important to this kids at academic are. Kids are well rounded.

PE class....in addition to the rigorous workouts and fitness training for baseball is needless...... as it is with other competitive sports.

Please reconsider this, as it is not fair to the kids who play on these teams.
