Insane to possibly believe this. How would this give any sport a competitive edge. It does not take three weeks to prepare for a season. Other school across the valley begin preparing for their respective seasons the very first day they step foot on campus. There is a reason as to why the same couple of schools also win CIF championships while Granada can not even compete. I wonder if Granada would be implementing these exact same rules and regulations if they were to affect The Academic Decathlon team, the Envirothon Team, or the Robotics Team. Again Granada clearly will do anything to show they prefer academics over athletics and this is just the latest injustice athletes and parents have to endure.

Mind boggling. Once again Granada penalizing the student athletes. These are Students who at the end of the day who have to work as hard or harder than most students due to practice and games. Another head scratching proprosal by the Granada Administration. A policy which would create a competitive mismatch against other high schools. But once again this exemplifies Granada's attitude toward sports. I wonder if a Granada policy would be proprosed that effects the Academic Decathalon team.

Sports are extremely important for our young boys and girls, and there's no reason to add additional PE for student athletes who are already taxed. Let student athletes continue to get in and out of practice as early as possible and understand that being a highly successful academic institution alone is not enough.
I hope that the pride of having well rounded young men and women graduating from Grananda can continue.

As long as the student meets california required credits and school credits for graduating then there is no need to remove 6th period sports

Signing thru fb. Please consider the enormous pressure on these kids and their parents whose schedules are already overflowing. Teachers have lives to live and should not be subjected to add to their agendas. Let's think of the kids first and foremost! Thank you.

Ridiculous! Kids are already stressed for time. What do they need a pe class for if they're exercising in a sport already?

This would be a great way to ensure kids get physically exhausted. For those on the fence of joining a team sport, this may be the tipping point against joining.

The student athletes dedicate a significant amount of time in and outside of the courts, fields, and pools to represent their school. Eliminating 6th period practice times will take away from the students time to complete homework, volunteering, other extracurricular activities, and spending time with family.

Seems like you'd have a difficult time keeping some of your athletes if you made it more difficult for them to play. How are kids supposed to maintain good grades, do homework, be athletes, and whatever other extra curricular activities they are already involved in? It just seems to me that it shouldn't be more difficult for kids to engage in things that keep their bodies moving.

As former cheerleading captain and AP student at Granada, (and now a practicing physician), I am in complete opposition to this mandate. I had very limited time to maintain my extracurricular practices on top of my homework, so to imagine staying until 6pm or later at cheer practice (instead of 5pm) would have been incredibly disruptive to my studies. This mandate, to me, is equivalent to asking an AP English student to take regular English during the same semester "because it is a mandate"--if you are already excelling in that field (i.e. athletics), you do not need any additional hour of P.E. If GHCHS wants to continue to develop well-rounded student athletes, it should not impose such senseless and stifling requirements on them.
