Where's the community input on this decision? Come on, DPS, get it together.

The more they try to reform schools the more the schools slip through the cracks. Teachers recently, in my district attended a workshop on team building. Schools in districts all over the country have used this method and in the most impoverished schools scores are increasing. The team of those working to increase scores includes all those involved in the student's life and this INCLUDES the parents. Just a quick bit of info. Blowing up schools, firing teachers, adding more (I thought less was more ,,when appropriate) assessments etc etc,, well , lets's just say, the proof is in the pudding

We need Smedley as an elementary school in our neighborhood!!! Our area of the Highlands is greatly lacking in quality elementary schools.

Both of our children are adults who attended Smedley when in elementary.

our daughters attended Centennial, three blocks from our home, when we all lived in North Denver and the school had a diverse population and test scores were used by the schools to monitor their own progress. Our children and their friends have graduated from a variety of fine colleges and universities. There are even a couple of PhDs in the group. This was well before every school was ranked and rated and parents were terrified to have their child in a school that isn't "top notch." I applaud the parents in Sunnyside who want their children to attend a neighborhood, economically integrated school. This is the best educational setting for all children.

This is sad. They turned Centennial K-8 around the year it scored green. Now I see it is 7th in the bottom 10 schools in DPS.

DPS will never care about community input as long as Tom is the charge and in control of the board.

We need an authentic process that involves the ENTIRE community to decide the best use of Smedley for ALL DPS students.

Smedley ES is perfectly located for its original purpose: serving the surrounding neighborhood as school for K-5 kids. Parents in Sunnyside want to restore the close connection between our neighborhood and its walkable schools.
