Keep the Shelby Park Courts Multi-Use. The Shelby Park Tennis and Sport Courts have been a valuable, car-free, open paved space for kids to skate, ride scooters, learn to ride a bike and practice baseball since the mid 2000s. The space is also home to The Shelby Park Roller Hockey Club involving 15-25 players a week. Metro Parks plans to add two more tennis courts and prohibit all other activities but tennis "within a few weeks." While tennis courts are valuable and should remain, waiting to play tennis there has not been an issue. Along with the four new tennis courts at Shelby, there are five existing courts 3 miles away at McFerrin and Cleveland parks. If the decade-old sport court will not be saved, a similar paved, fenced facility should be built in or near the park.

Metro Parks thinks they can just bulldoze our community space without a fight but this surge of support proves they are dead wrong. They are ignoring the families and skaters who actually use these courts for the sake of their own narrow agenda. We are just getting started and they better be ready for a long battle.

I use the "redtop" regularly for baseball workouts for my little league team. I love the surface, the location, the high fence, etc. Perfect all purpose spot and would hate to lose even just one square foot of it. -- I hope our voices are heard and thank you for starting the discussion! - Andy Hawes.

This is a perfect spot for hockey. In addition to playing with the great guys from the Shelby Hockey Club, I also skate here with other friends. Tennis play would not be affected and we could still play hockey. Let's make everyone happy!

All of my kids learned to ride bikes on the sports court. We've had some great four square tournaments there, too! Please keep this area available for multiple uses!

I enjoyed using the non-tennis court side for several years. In those years, I've never witnessed anyone have to wait to play tennis. Tennis courts are expensive to install and maintain and I think keeping the current layout serves more people and is less costly.

After learning to bike and then teaching my younger sibblings too, I feel morraly oblegated to sign to this petition. My family will still occasionly head down to skate and bike, and making the court into tennis court does not seem worth the obstacles for the young bikers or skaters.

The multi-use space supports a diversity of activities, I do not support a change that would curtail these activities and effect a deserted space with less community involvement. Our tennis players have let us know they do not wait for court time as it stands now, so why would Metro Parks waste time and resources to devalue the space?

I just moved to Nashville and play both roller and ice hockey. I moved to east Nashville and would love to be able to join and play hockey in my neighborhood.
