I can't make you feel anything by offering 2 colors for a graduation uniform. Uncomfortable people are uncomfortable. Period. If it's not the color of the cap and gown it will be something else.
Interesting how your statement "After four years of learning and gaining new experiences and skills, if the color of your gown is what matters most to you, you clearly haven't got your priorities in order" only applies to people who don't comply with your beliefs.

Ep just went through the very same thing last week. Wanted everyone to wear red. It was overturned this week because their administration cares about their students voices. What may not be important to one may be to another. Please don't minimize this ridiculous change.

So why not just let them pick instead? Why change everyone to conform for a couple. Doesn't that contradict what they are trying to do in the first place? They don't want to be conformed to a specific color but let's restrict all the other girls.

#2. No money is saved, I had to pay for my child's cap and gown. (A color they don't want, mind you). The school doesn't pay a dime.
You should be ashamed of stripping 142 kids of their rights for 1 student.

I get the pint it's a good thoughtful point, but this is tradition, if it really is a big deal just have the students chose which color they would like to wear. One color actually conforms everyone and shows no individuality.

Ok, lets break this down:
-Some students are unsure of where they fall on the gender spectrum, and to those students, something as small as what they wear can be really difficult for them. If one tiny change can make even ONE student feel more comfortable on the proudest day of their young life, who are we be upset about that?
-It'd probably be cheaper to get all one color instead of half and half and we all know how much budget cuts within schools suck. What if the money saved from this change went into sports or the arts? Then everyone wins.
-I know I had an issue finding a dress I liked that didn't look bad under a thin white gown. Switching to blue would make that issue disappear.
-If you want to keep the "tradition" so badly, why not advocate for it to change to every other student, or by row, instead of by gender? Let's not pretend this is an issue with tradition, it's an issue with ignorance. You should all be ashamed.

My high school was once green and white but for my graduation we had to all wear green. I couldn't keep my highschool's tradition alive, so hopefully I can help keep this one alive instead.

The amount of ignorance in this comment section is insane. Letting students choose whether to wear blue or white doesn't solve the issue, because some individuals are unsure where they fall on the spectrum of gender. The point is that the two colors perpetuate a binary that makes some people feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. After four years of learning and gaining new experiences and skills, if the color of your gown is what matters most to you, you clearly haven't got your priorities in order.

Keep the tradition, why change it for all? Let those that want to change their color option, due to gender identity, choose their color. Everyone is treated equally regardless of the color they wear.

I don't see what the big deal is? We were all navy blue when I graduated in 97. Both boys and girls. Aren't there more important things to be petitioning like the drastic budget cuts and the impact of those cuts at the high school?

I agree, keep it blue and white. Let the kids that have worked so heard to get to this milestone in there life pick the color THEY want. People can choose what gender they prefer to identify with, yet Administration won't let graduates make a choice for a cap and grow. Really...what are we coming to.
