Students who live in six multi-family dwellings in the Riverchase East neighborhood may be rezoned to Greystone Elementary, if a proposal before the Hoover City School Board passes in its current form. The affected areas include Riverchase Gardens, Royal Oaks, The Gables Condominiums, Summerchase Apartments, Colonial Grande at Riverchase Trails, and Sterling Oaks.

The Riverchase East Parent Working Group opposes this portion of the rezoning proposal, for several reasons, including reduction in property values of the condominiums, increased costs of living for all residents, and disruptions in the lives of students which will lead to reduced student achievement and difficulties for the labor force in Hoover.

Please sign this petition to let Superintendent Andy Craig know: we want to stay in Riverchase!

Updates

August 27, 2014

The Parent Working Group has finalized a formal brief detailing the negative impact of these rezoning plans on student stability and property valuations. We are submitting this document to the Superintendent and each board member this week to ensure they review our data before the upcoming vote.

August 27, 2014

The scale of this response is compelling as I prepare the formal brief for the school board session. I am currently coordinating a meeting with the district office to present our objections to the rezoning proposal.

Keep them in Riverchase! Its causing a lot inconvenience for parents. you are fighting against low education ratio in alabama , and from doing this you are making it so hard for parents. Please listen to us. Thank you.

The brunt of any redistricting necessary should not fall disproportionately on those who live in multi-family dwellings. Moreover, Riverchase Elementary is not overcrowded. There is no compelling reason to bus these children such a great distance when there is room for them in their neighborhood elementary school.

I am signing this petition because I am a homeowner and the mother of a 4th grade student at RCE. I chose RCE, not Greystone. If my child has to change schools next year, she will be moving to 3 schools in 3 years. Greystone, being out of our community with all new students and area and then coming back to her own community the following year. I do not see how this is stable for any elementary school children. Greystone is a great school but it is not conducive for our community at all. Travel time on a 1 lane road with 5 other schools and business traffic to and from 280 cause major congestion on the road. My child already gets on the bus at 6:54 am just to go 2 miles. How

Craig should have been fired long ago. he has no clue how to run an educational system.
