The Library at Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN) is planning on cancelling their subscriptions to many key academic journals across the disciplines of the humanities, social sciences, and sciences.

This action means that faculty members and graduate students, across departments, will not be able to conduct original research; undergraduate and graduate courses, alike, will not be able to use articles in the syllabus as teaching materials; and ultimately, this will greatly undermine the research capacity of the university, jeopardising Memorial's status as a recognised research institution - the only research institution in the province.

The politics surrounding this issue have been handled very poorly by the library. Undergraduate and graduate students, and the broader public should be made aware of this issue and of the potential devastating effects the library's decision will have on the present and future of the Memorial University community.

just saw we hit 500 signatures and i cant believe it. seeing so many people speak up about these library cuts means everything and shows how much this place really matters. lets keep this energy going.

Total incompetence from the library staff. they should focus on keeping resources available instead of cutting them.

Without these journals the whole prestige of the school goes down the drain. stop the cuts now.

My profs rely on these articles for literally every single class i take. this would be a disaster for my education.

MUN is the only research uni in NL. if we lose access to these journals we might as well just close the doors. do better.

this is going to hurt so many grad students. how are we supposed to finish our degrees without access to updated research? really shameful decision.
