A 48-year-old Florida man, who had spent nearly nine years in prison for two sex crime convictions, was arrested yesterday in Northeast Ohio for living here without registering his address with the state, as he's required to do for the rest of his life.
In 1996, Scott Ray Moon was convicted in Polk County, Fla., of "Lewd and Lascivious Act in the Presence of a Child," for sexually abusing a nine-year-old relative, and was sentenced to 32 months in prison. In 2001, he was convicted of not complying with his sex offender registry requirements and was sentenced to five years of probation. In 2004, Moon was convicted in Polk County of sexual battery on a child after raping a babysitter, and was sentenced to six years in prison. Because he's officially labeled as a sexual predator by the state, he's required to register his address for the rest of his life.
But he hasn't done that. Instead, court records show, he's recently been living unregistered in Ohio at the Chippewa Valley Campground and working as an electrician at a job site in Twinsburg.
In December, U.S. Marshals in Ohio received a tip that Moon was in the state, despite telling Florida authorities that he had moved to Texas, according to an affidavit filed by Marshal investigator. Marshals checked for him at possible address down south (he wasn't there) and with a recent employer (he quit) and found no sign of him.
That's when social media can come in handy. According to the affidavit, Moon had been updating his whereabouts on Facebook, which is where U.S. Marshals found the following posts:
On Nov. 5, Moon wrote "heading back east, a little colder climate, but what the Hell, nothing is ever perfect. Ohio bound!!" He also mentioned Grove City.
On Nov. 7, Moon wrote that the only open campground he could find was the Chippewa Valley Campground, in Seville.
On Nov. 14, he posted from Cleveland a picture of the temperature in Seville. .
On Nov. 16 and 22, he posted from Gloria Glens Park in Medina.
Last month, U.S. Marshals investigators got a lead that Moon had made purchases at the Home Depot in Wadsworth and the Camping World store in Akron. They got surveillance footage from Home Depot and a receipt from Camping World.
Two days later, Jan. 9, Marshals spotted Moon's truck at the campground and on Jan. 14, they spoke with an employee of an Akron-based electric company who confirmed that Moon had been working for them since November, and as of Jan. 5, had been working at a job in Twinsburg.

i am a family member of his first victum. to me he is a poor excuse of a man..a father is supposed to protect them and keep them safe, not to cause them to live in fear.
Do your jobs and keep this monster odd the streets! He is a repeat offender and shows no signs of complying with any laws!
Pedophiles CANNOT be rehabilitated. We cannot keep releasing them so they can further harm our children.
Are you kidding me he was hiding out at a campground?? Needs to go back to prison for a long time. Zero chance of him changing.
This man is a danger to every kid in the area. Why is he even loose? Lock him up for good and throw away the key!

Predators should not be allowed for realise from prison. They're just gonna do it again and again and again until they stay locked away forever
