As an avid Polka Music fan, I find that this move to reduce Polka Music extremely bias. Are Polka music fans any less relevant than Hispanics or Rap or Hip-Hop? They wouldn't dare offend the Hispanic or Black communities. But Polka people (Slavic, German and so many other European groups) can be routinely tossed under the bus with no consequence.

Listen to the polka shows every weekend from Pittsburgh, PA, and have done so for years. The UMass administration's shortsightedness and mismanagement of the entire programming situation (caving to the innuendo and special interests of a couple of students) is a disgrace. Were it not for Billy Belina's initiating the PolkaThon over 30 years ago, and raising nearly a half a million dollars, who knows if the station would even still be in existence. More importantly, however, is the slap in the face to the Pioneer Valley community, the seniors in particular (although I understand that at least one of the three programming managers has little care for the "%T&# old white people"). So much for your chancellor's championing "diversity", which should blanket all people, not just the "special" groups. UMass should ALWAYS work to be a community member, as you are just that, but the manipulative actions of the past 9 months have proven that this is not where your heart is. You CAN FIX the wrongs of the past months by expanding the 24-hour cap on community programming to a more manageable amount of time so that the students still have the majority of hours, yet the community members don't feel disrespected and used. I implore you to do the right thing and revisit this entire matter. I leave you in good faith that justice will be done.

We listen from Canada faithfully both Saturday and Sunday and would ask to keep POLKAS ALIVE on WMUA. We love the music, it is part of our heritage and this music is memories we all cherish forever, so please keep polkas on strong and long over WMUA!

Polkas are part of the Cleveland heritage and traditions for many, many people who's parents/grandparents settled here from Europe. So many of us have been brought up on this music as have our children and grandchildren and it will be passed on to theirs. WHY WOULD YOU TAKE IT OFF THE AIR? Not cool, not cool at all!

I urge the management of WMUA to reconsider their decision. As a an avid Polka fan and listener of WMUA, I have enjoyed the Polka programming over the Internet in my home in Chicago, IL. It is one of the few outlets to keep a wonderful piece of our cultural heritage alive.
