Keep Polkas Alive on WMUA

Polka music is the only reason I listen to wmua. Bring back those cheerful Djs and let the polka lift up your soul!

Keep this wonderful music alive for generations to come.

I am a UMass Alum and a proud Polish American who listened to Polkas every weekend morning at my grandparents' house. I am shocked that my university would do such a thing to the community that supports this station especially by funding and astounded that this announcement was made after the fundraising period. Shame on UMass! I am not going to be donating to the university any time soon.

Please keep polkas on the radio. We are proud of our heritage and enjoy sharing the joyful sound of polkas with all our friends of various ethnic backgrounds.

Please, do not take away the only connection to the polka community to those who aren't able to attend local events. This is their connection. This is what keeps them going and make them happy. They look forward to Saturdays and Sundays. They are connected. Thank you Billy B for making WUMA what it is today. STO LAT !!!!

You guys have no idea what you did to a large Polka community! Very disappointing. Please restore. If not be sure to redund my donations total of $70.00 ASAP!

WMUA’s own web site states: “WMUA, licensed to the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, is a student and community radio station, in continuous operation on campus for over 65 years”. Yet now in a matter of a couple of months, the concept of community involvement seems to have been ousted. It goes on to state that more than half of its annual budget, in excess of $100,000, is raised through individual donations, business underwriting and other fundraising, with records showing that support of Polka music provides a substantial amount of these contributions. In contrast, we have heard UMass spokesperson Edward Blaguszewski announce that “WMUA is the university's student-run radio station, largely supported by student fees and the university." Looks like the web site declarations need to be updated. This decision to all but eliminate polka programming appears ignorant and inane, and the University Administration is encouraged to reconsider this blunder while there is still time to repair the damage done by shooting itself in the foot. Thank you very much for listening and for your consideration. I listen via internet and live in southern Vermont.

Bring back the polkas Saturday and Sunday!

WMUA is supported by ALL the taxpayers of Massachusetts and the station should dedicate an adequate amount of broadcast time to those taxpayers who support this station through their taxes and the donations that they make during the polkathon. This station is funded for both the community and the students. The changes give a disproportionately small time allowance for community programming such as the polka shows.

This air time on WMUA is not just for the students of UMASS, the school is funded through tax payer dollars. any activity that allows people to enjoy the cultural endeavoers produced at the University should be considered important

Polka music is heart healthy and good for the soul. You can't help having a smile on your face and tapping your toes when you hear polka music. It makes your step and soul lighter. Keep polka alive and keep playing it on this station. Please do not cut any polka music broadcasting.
