We have to keep fighting to keep polka music on th radio. In Chicago we went from music all. Day Sunday to three hours. We were dropped from the Grammy awards. Keep on fighting

Preserve the heritage and traditions that needs to passed down to the next generations through Polka music. Twelve hours out an entire broadcasting week is not too much to ask to remain on the air. You're a college--- BE DIVERSE !!!

This music is so much a part of tradition and culture in the area. With today's technology it reaches out to so many who are out of the western mass area- it brings you home! I hope that with this petition they reconsider how important this music is to the community that supports it!

24 hrs is an arbitrary number. Why not give Polka 12 hrs, and allow other community members 20 hrs? If student learning is the focus, why not assign a few students to learn from the Polka djs (obvious experts at creating a vibrant and dedicated listenership!)

Listen on internet. Polka might not be your favorite music genre, but to many people it lifts their spirits and actually makes them want to be alive. I occasionally play at retirement homes and you can see the people come alive by playing music, especially Polka. It would be a disgrace to take away from the people what they paid to listen to. Apparently the management of WMUA either does'nt care or has other plans such as cut the hours and then cut Polka out altogether. All in all, I hope all turns out for the better for both sides.

I have been a long time listener and polka-thon contributor, I am truly disappointed in Wmua's new management decision to cut the hours of the polka shows. Until the full schedule is restored I will no longer be making monetary donations to Wmua.

Part of WMUA's Programing Philosophy says "WMUA is committed to music … that speaks to the… Pioneer Valley community." (p. 11, WMUA Station Manual) After 36 years, it seems WMUA has abandoned their philosophy as well as the Pioneer Valley community. I am a native of Sunderland and now live in NH and listen via the internet. My parents always listened to the polka shows.

$24,000 has to be made up somewhere, student fees or another source. these shows have been a part of the culture of western mass for years. instead of reducing the program hours, I suggest leaving the 12 hours and let students learn a life lesson in accepting traditions, and diversity by taking a more active part in producing polka programming.

I live on cape cod and we are able to get the station over the internet. It's the perfect way to send happy birthday wishes to relatives.
