A young entrepreneurs started this business and came up with all the money and was then supported by residents and visitors to make it a success. There was nothing there before and now ECC have got greedy having added nothing to this success. I’ve had the details of the bidding process shown to me and not only is it unfair it’ll make zero difference to the ECC budget and added to that they want 20% of the income. It’s theft by any name. I’m ashamed to be conservative voter!!

Why try to stop people providing a service which is needed.

What is this country coming to when it doesn’t support a small independent business. That entrepreneur spirit, support the family attitude. You’ll have everyone blandly working for big corporations, large names - it’s that attitude that’s also killing the high street!

I cannot believe the council have done this to such a great small business that has been so successful! Absolutely disgusting !

Unbelievable that the council could even think about taking away their licence away phoebes come up with the idea and the council want to profit from their efforts.

These lovely, lovely girls deserve better treatment than this, they have built a friendly business with delicious homemade cakes and food, I don't want some big concern taking it over and charging exorbitant prices, dressed in black uniforms and not knowing their "friends" (customers) personally, Council greed taking over yet again, buff envelopes all round, next you'll have to pay for car parking there. I won't ever use this new lot out of principle!

We need Phoebe's Pantry - they have brought a real sense of riverside community to our town, and it is outrageous that ECC have taken this away without any thought for the residents of South Woodham. We do not want a soulless replacement.

A truly great loss to this area of natural beauty, to be relieved with a more faceless large corporation. Must mean mega money for the council, but I fear the cheap teas/coffees will be gone and fancy ones in their place to pay for it. I bet the cakes won't be as good either. Might be cutting my nose off to spite my face, but I won't be putting any business their way..

I'd like to se this staying running, but I blame those who voted for a government that squeezes local authorities such that they have to take such touch decisions. Even so I wonder if some clever specification in the tender/contract could have kept Phoebe's as a named subcontractor. Even without this might the successful tenderer like to think about retaining it too under a sub-concessionary arrangement and retain local goodwill?

We should be encouraging small businesses not running them out of town! This business did their upmost throughout the pandemic, and kept people's spirits up. Shame on the ECC!
