This is just another direct tax which after 10 years of below inflation pay rises (ie an effective 14% pay cut) is a bit rich. And is not going to make parking easier. I would rather council and public services were funded by central government through an effective collection of progressive taxation of big business who do ther best to avoid paying tax, and the return of utilities to public ownership so that what is now funneled off as profit could be used to contribute to the NHS, housing, schools etc.

It makes it v difficult visiting friends and doing garden work. In parts that have already got parking permits, there are many empty spaces but none where non resident bays are.

This is a relatively low-income area and it would penalise those who are already struggling, and increase isolation.

I work down the dip and it will effect me on a daily basis, I cannot afford it and certainly don’t want it.

Completely unnecessary money making making scam, my mother lives there and couldn’t afford to drive anymore so it would remove her independence

Only fair if public transport is funded to provide an alternative to car ownership.

Not everyone can afford to pay for this. Parking should be free to residents....

I cannot afford this extra cost . This will be the straw that breaks the camels back for me. It is an unfair tax being pushed onto us by the pressure of parking charges imposed on other- more affluent- areas. You have pushed cars from more affluent areas into ours - households with two cars that don’t want to pay double & this tax - It benefits who? A private company ? Not the poor locals, not the very low waged refuse workers who use the area when the actual residents have gone off to work. ( only causing a temporary daily change of useage rather than a problem ) This is a much poorer area in general. To impose this tax on us in Hollingdean is to exclude poorer people from the use of their cars. So its ok to drive if you are rich enough? This is a disgusting tax effecting the poor disproportionately. In our area , it would amount to discrimination against the actual residents .

There were no parking problems in Brighton until the council introduced the permit scheme in areas where it wasnt needed. Now free spaces are few and far between and there just happens to be some in Hollingdean so we have become a giant car park and particularly in my road and others nearby it seems to be okay to dump ugly white vans for days and sometimes weeks on end. Hollingdean is not a trailer park!! They need to go!! We have a problem that's not ours it's the councils. They invented this problem with antisocial parking they need to invent a solution to eradicate it. Provide parking for vans elsewhere and get rid of permits outside of the town centre - this scheme was never needed outside of the town centre it's just a cynical money spinner.

This does not solve the parking problem, just shunts it to another area as I have witnessed in the last 20 years. It inhibits genuine visitors and can make it difficult for much needed family support, especially in the cases of young families whose budget is tight.

we do not want to have resident parking zones in Hollingdean. This has to stop! when we have enough daytime parking and all it achieves is to move more vehicles over to the next area! The only time that there are no spaces in the road is at night when the parking restrictions would not be valid anyway! Five ways businesses are already suffering from this ridiculous permit parking resulting in elderly residents being unable to drive and park at their local shops! If the resident parking was lifted here, we wouldn’t have the overflow carried down to Hollingdean and the shops there would be more accessible to all once again!!!! why should we have to pay to park outside my own house in a residential area!!!

My family is a working family which commutes which means we need more than one car which will force us to pay a lot of money - if that happens I feel i will just leave the area, it is a tax and ridiculous, it doesn’t solve the issue, it just forces people to park further away. Offer vastly cheaper bus fares and you may have a solution, rather than lazily and greedily taxing parking places outside peoples home.

I can only see how parking permits for Hollingdean will create more problems, I cannot see how it offers any solutions. Marked bays to aide people in parking more considerately, proper anchors for wheelie bins so people don't keep moving them (or getting them off the roads so they are not competing for space) and adequate safe motorcycle parking bays would help, as would removing permit parking from surrounding areas so other neighbourhoods' residents don't have to seek free parking here. The only people I could see benefiting from this scheme would be the council (permit income plus endless penalty charge notices no doubt) I do not see any benefit to the community, especially our more vulnerable residents. People living alone will receive less visitors if those visitors have to pay - for a council that allegedly wants to reduce social isolation how can this proposed scheme possibly be an appropriate solution?
