Let's maintain free parking for Hollingdean residents

Yet again the thought of residential parking in hollingdean has risen again. The council want to raise money at the expense of car drivers and increase more cycle paths and bus routes instead of spending the money raised to repair the roads and stop this town from looking like a third world country. Make the parking overnight and not during the day and stop all of the caravans and vans from abusing local residents. It about time the council listen to the people and stop trying to make money for no reason.

Yes it is annoying if you cannot park near your own home but having spoken to others who have already got the paid parking this does not guarantee anyone a space so keep the road FREE.

Christopher Watson. Burstead Close. Say no to the parking zone! It's huge business for the council who are still dealing with massive austerity cuts from central government and sheer selfishness on the part of a small minority residents who clearly have too much spare money to burn and who wish to impose a massive parking tax on everyone who lives in the area just because they don't like the inconvenience of sometimes having to look for a parking space that's more than a few spaces away from their house.

I am completely oppposed to a few for residents parking and paying for something I already have, and on the basis of which I moved to this home. Residents parking would be prohibitively expensive for me, but I need my car. I have no difficulties finding a space to park. I sometimes cannot park outside my house, but this gives no guarantees of that, note does the scheme run at night which is the time it is most needed. This is simply selling us something we already have.

PARKING CHARGES WILL NOT HELP THE RESIDENTS.
The parking problem is in the evening and not during the day.
As a senior citizen in Hollingdean Terrace with no car and limited resources I resent that visitors would have to pay to park because so many people find it convenient to own cars and damage the environment and a Council that has stuffed the area to the max and beyond with HMOs.
You can't have your cake and eat it. The only solution is to have fewer cars. Ban parking by large vans and lorries in residential areas and tax heavily any second car. Give incentives for people who choose not to have a car such as discounts for public transport. Reduce the cost of public transport to a very reasonable level. A change in culture and mind set is needed and a Council who is not afraid to tackle the root cause of a problem instead of attempting to manage the symptoms by putting in measures that are clearly ineffective and unsustainable.

We pay enough in road and fuel tax already.
If B&H had a decent 'park and ride' system and public transport was more reasonably priced many of us wouldn't need cars.
I would particularly resent visitors having to pay to visit me

I am against resident permit parking in Hollingdean. Blue badge holders will not be able to park in residents only bays making it even more difficult for them to visit us.

Wherever I drive in the city I see lots of free space during the day and little at night. I support the idea of a 1hr parking limit near shops but am against the idea of residents parking permits.

Permit parking is not wanted and will simply costs residents to park in the street. We do not want it.

I totally support thjis petition and believe the council needs a more strategic approach to parking rather than respond according to the reaction of each neighbourhood as resident parking charges in other neighbourhoods impact.

This price is outrageous- let alone it is not necessary in out of town area's...It should never have happened to Hanover either. If forced upon us should not be over £100! TOPS!!!!

It’s pointless and just makes it harder for people who are struggling. This will ruin the entire area and demoralise everybody.

I don’t agree with this scheme and think it greatly disadvantages residents in an area already classed as deprived .

I have lots of sympathy for those coming home after the working day. But I have been through this in Brixton London 15 years ago. You end up being able to park outside your door but nowhere else in the city. Visitors is a pain in the neck. I used my car as spare storage space.
If we have to have parking fines I sugggest they last 1 hour from 6-7 in the evening. One parking warden could do the round before he'd finished his cigarette.

I am against this further road tax. The issue on the road is the decamping of vehicles passed here by residents parking nearby and all that will be achieved by bring residents parking here is to do the same in neighbouring street. In considerate parking such as leaving 2-5ft either side of vehicles reduces available parking space is more of an issue but this an educational/behaviour campaign issue. Illegal parking on corners etc. should be fined. We have a further problem with HMOs and multiple car ownership which needs tackled.

Parking costs in Brighton are ridiculous. Where's the park and ride, Where's the trams?
