The Confederate Veterans' names on this monument died for Burke County. Both of my great great grandfathers' names are on this monument. Confederate Civil War Veterans are US Veterans. When you move or destroy Civil War monuments, you are not only destroying history, but insulting all veterans from every era that died in service to our county and country. Leave it alone and exactly where it is. I hope our politicians and officials in Burke County have the guts to stand up and keep our monument to honor those who died for Burke County.

That statue represents history and the men who died fighting for the South's right to govern itself. The men listed on that statue were not slave owners and that is not what they were fighting for. At the very least, the citizens of our beloved county should have the opportunity to vote on this issue.
