Keep Our Children at JW Gerth for Grades 5 and 6

It will work the best for our children they are the most important in this case. Putting our kids through that is no good. We have to find a good solution for them.

Grade 5 and 6 needs to stay at JW Gerth, this is an important time when independance and increased responsibility are developed in order to be prepared for middle school.

alternative solutions need to be investigated and the parent community needs to be fully included in the process!

We need to keep our kids at JW Gerth. We don't want our kids to robbed of their innocence!

I am very much opposed to this idea for all the reasons that many parents have already given. Other solutions such as more portables or different distribution models that make more sense need to be explored.

Please keep the children at JW Gerth.

Grades 5 and 6 students benefit from a leadership role in addition to being a positive role model for younger students.

My grandchildren attend JW Gerth , and i believe it would not be in their best interest to move them .

I agree with all the aforementioned reasoning. Although jk-8 schools abound and work well, and 7-8 schools also are fantastic, this is neither (325 grade 7-8s with a much smaller cohort of 5-6s), and our kids and teachers would not be part of the Doon community because out of necessity, they would have to be separated for the above mentioned reasons. There has to be a better solution that does not disrupt the community that our children have become accustomed to. Is there perhaps a way of halting registration, including JKs for next year, except for existing Gerth families, and have those children attend their jk/sk years at another school close by (Jean Steckle, Pioneer Park, Brigadoon, etc)? It was mentioned that the largest group is the jk/sk age group, so in the meantime, those extra classrooms at Gerth could be used for grade ones. These students and families would not feel the displacement like the older children will, and would be back at their home schools in time for grade one to start to become part of whatever school they will be attending. Just a thought.

This is an appalling attempt at a solution to what is clearly a lack of planning and collaboration between Waterloo Region officials and the WRDSP. Time to go back to the drawing board and see what else we can come up with!

I am very concerned about the proposal to have grade 5 students from JW Gerth attend Doon Middle School. I was looking forward to my daughter having the opportunities and rewards of being the senior student in her school. I think that moving to a middle school will not give her the opportunities to grow and experience more leadership type roles which I feel are critical at this stage of development. I have two children at Gerth and having to split them up leads to a whole group of issues that we were not prepared to deal with at this stage. I hope that a more appropriate solution is brought to the table.

I completely disagree with making this change for the Grade 5's & 6's. Not enough time was spent conisdering how this will affect split families and after school care for these children. You are forcing us to find our own options or leave our children at home unattended which some of us may not be prepared to do. Every child has different comfort levels. Splitting families between schools has made this even more difficult as careivers will need to get kids from 2 schools. This is poor planning on the part of developers and we should not have to pay for it and neither should our kids. I am not in favour for this move at all.

Hi Pam! I would like to put out my opinion on moving grade fivers over to Doon Public school. please don not persue the moving of age 11 year olds over to a school that is developmentally equipped to serve and educate age 14 children. I believe children take a great pride in their school and what they csn accomplish as members of a community uniquely taliored to their developmental level. Please let these children have the opportunity to grow strong in their sense of self, coupled with an education to enable them see their strengths, thus dimishi ng potential strife in personal development. This proposed solution is just a band aid solution., not a growth minded solution. Thank you fir your time.
