Common sense dictates that a service existing to foster literacy among young people should be supported and developed, not abolished.

This unit is so valuable to kids who are struggling with their language skills... in the days of measured educational attainment closing such a dept can only leave some of these kids behind from the beginning

The Language Unit provides a vital, local service and sense of community within education. Whilst the provision of support may continue the means in which it is to be delivered is less appealing. This decision should be made in consultation with the schools, parents, community and councillors.

Speech and language units are essential to help children's development and wellbeing. What on earth are you thinking of to even consider closing this?

It is a disgrace that this has been done with no consultation. The language unit is a vital service.

This should be invested in. Not closed. What are you thinking????

As a former SLT working in schools I referred some children to the Orkney Language Unit because I did not have the time to deliver the specialist intensive therapy they required within the primary school situation.

If the council can afford to pay £1,000,000 for the Island Games then they can afford to keep the Language Unit open

Will be an absolute disgrace if they shut it down!

This is disgraceful that they would close this. Orkney Islands council say that we need to learn and it is important. So why would they then go and close a facility that helps influence leaning? I'd like to see them answer this question.

An excellent and much valued service which has provided early intervention for many children in the county. This service is at the very core of ' Getting it Right for Every Child' and should be firmly embedded in our provision for Orkney's children; not withdrawn or restructured.

As someone who had speech therapy when they were younger, I believe kids should be afforded all the opportunities they can get to help them communicate.

Please reconsider this decision. Money spent now to give children an equal start to their peers is money well spent
