As a nursery teacher I see the benefits first hand of speech and language therapy so the loss of this service would dramatically effect the lives of so many!

I show my support to keeping Shetland Language centre which is a life line to many families and requires saving.

I'm signing this petition as our son currently attends the existing Language Unit and it's current service provision has been beyond valuable in his speech development and I refuse to believe that the same level of direct and focused expert service at one purpose location can be spread across attending educational facilities all over the County without having a detrimental impact on the service provision and, more importantly, the children who desperately need it!

These cuts have a devastating effect on young children's development who need this help. With help they can integrate and achieve great things, without they will be isolated . Please reconsider.

My stepdaughter has improved in both reading and writing at an unbelievable pace since she was introduced to this service. It is a fantastic service and absolutely should not be even be considered for closure.

Please keep the language unit open. The work with children helps them learn important skills for their futures.

Children from all over Orkney, including the Isles have attended the language unit. Staff can't possibly give same input when they have to travel to all schools as required.

My son loves the Language Unit and it works. Having specialists or extra support in his school could never compare to the intensive learning experience, the expertise and support he receives at the unit.

Why close educational establishments? Do you have a hidden agenda?

This service was offered to us for our in October 2015, even after a few weeks he was beginning to use his words. We noted each one down, and by the Christmas he was saying up to 30 new words. Throughout 2016 he continued to go, and started saying sentences in accordance to his age. After our assessment in October 2016, he still continued to go, and was integrated into an older group of children where pronunciation was focused on. My son received his certificate and was discarded in February 2017, with the condition that he still receives support from school with a Speech Therapist. His confidence has grown, and he is a much happier little boy who can now communicate with his peers and not be left out because he can't talk. This service should remain as it is. So many children have benefited, including my cousin.

A service that meets a very real need, and which could help even more children, should not be treated in this shoddy manner.
