The unit provides a professional, caring and effective service to the children of Orkney who need it. Children have speech and language difficulties for all sorts of reasons and the one to one support, help and advice provided by the teachers makes a HUGE positive difference to children and their families. Reconfiguring the service will mean teachers having less time to spend with children and is not a good use of scarce resources.

Too many rural resources are disappearing. Not supporting remediation of early communication deficit/delay is shortsightedness for the economy in the future to say nothing of the long term impact on people's lives.

Please don't close a unit that will be making such a difference to children with speech, language and communication needs.

My son went to the language unit for a number of years . I believe it had not been for this unique service and the specialist staff there he may not have been able to continue in mainstream school. I believe it is a vital part of the education for children in Orkney. Children would not get the same service or attention from speech therapy alone it is more effective along side the language unit.

With my family coming from Orkney Sanday to be precise I visited Orkney every year when I was younger. I then had a gap of 25 years and returned in 2016 only to find it harder to find someone that spoke Orcaidian than not. Orkney is losing its identity and this language unit is a MUST stay open to help retain what WILL be lost in a very short space of time.....

The language unit has improved the quality of life for so many children in Orkney. To close it would deprive children who live there from an essential opportunity to improve their ability to communicate.
