The true meaning of organic agriculture is the production of food in a living soil. The exclusion of biocides is necessary in order to achieve that, but it is not the whole story. Organic begins and ends with the soil.

Only plants grown in soil can be Organic. Hydroponically and other non-soil grown plants that are grown with no chemicals can make up their own designation. Organic farming has always addressed soil health and feeding your crops via the soil. If a plant cannot get nutrition naturally from the medium where its roots lie, it has to rely on alternative methods to obtain nutrients and can therefore NOT be Organic. By natural design plants rely on the soil microbes to break down nutrients and make them available to the plants. Soil has to be part of the equation in Organics.

Please do not allow hydroponically grown produce to be labeled as organic. Consumers need to know how produce is grown. I support soil-grown organics.

Please don't dilute the organic label with hydroponics. Organic is not just about the food that we eat, but also about the care of the land that created that food. Hydroponics deserve their own label. Thank you.

Organic production is as much about care for our planet and regeneration of soils, as it is about methods of growing our food. Hydroponics, while having a place, should not be certified as organic.

Organic systems require a living soil, animals must have access to a pasture system managed as a feed source.
I wish I had known about this petition earlier.
Soil is key.
