I believe we should keep standards clear - mark hudroponics as being hydroponics, and clarify pesticide use for them as a completely different ranking...

Organic agriculture should be consistent with the processes of nature, which means plants grow in soil in community with microbes and fungi.

I get it that growing food hydroponically can be a space-saver for large cities, but hydroponic crops are not organic crops, they are hydroponic crops. One of the most important functions of the organic movement is the preservation of healthy soil. That soil belongs to our descendants, and we have an obligation to protect it with all of the tools at our disposal. The "organic" label is one of those tools. Please do not destroy it.

Healthy soil begets a healthy food crop. This nourishes more than just humans. It also feeds the soul. Won't some Federal Agency please do the right thing? How about you USDA? What happens when our water is polluted due to EPA lack of enforcement?

We need soil to ensure we get all the nutrients of the plants.

As an organic consumer willing to pay extra for the better health that I'm convinced organically grown food can impart I want to return the organic standards to their original meaning. That means grow in soil that passes on its nutrients to the plants.

Organic should not be applied to hydroponics, there is no way that the complex life of soil can be duplicated in water. It is not the way plants have evolved to grow. This is not an organic approach, hydroponics. I will no longer consider USDA a legitimate certifier if hydroponic vegetables and fruit are allowed in the program.

On my farm we work to improve soil health. I believe Having healthy soil is one of the most important factors in having a healthy planet. I farm in Washington State. The WSDA requires each farm to demonstrate with a plan how we will reach and maintain healthy soil on Our farms. Soil is an important sink for carbon. We need healthy soil to reduce carbon in our atmosphere. As an organic farmer I was alarmed to here that hydroponics has been given an organic status. We need to unite and get Our message out to all organic farms, consumers. I plan to take action. John Senseney

Organic can only be based on natural high quality fertile soil. That is what gives the food life and health giving qualities. Hydroponics are fine but they are not organic..

To me, organically grown means grown with care for our planet. Big Ag just can't claim to be doing that. I support farmers who grow real food in real soil.

I did not understand until I saw the video. Thank You. The specific information as to why we need to keep aquaculture non-organic certified needs to be clarified and disseminated throughout the land! It's not enough to say we worked hard to become organic growing in soil...or hydroponic is growing throughout the corporate industries and will takeover soil-growing organic farmers...or just simply being angry. SPECIFIC reasons why certifying aquaculture or hydroponics organic will hurt us all is necessary! GO ORGANIC SOIL FARMERS!!! WE ALL NEED YOU!!! Thank You, Bethy Levy

Stop messing with our food. I want food grown in dirt without chemicals. If hydroponics are allowed to be called organic, I will absolutely stop buying organic from large chain grocers and ONLY buy local from farmers I know are growing in dirt. I want the soiul microbes, I want a healthy planetary ecology. STOP making corporate profits a priority. We The People should be your priority. We want dirt grown organic!
