I live on 740 N. Sappington Rd. directly from the cross walk. My family and I are very much against the idea of adding more asphalt parking space instead of green space. My house driveway is the most congested of all!! I can handle it, and always have. The Board should have public discussions for the NG elementary parking, and vote on it.

Seems like a short sited vision on a space that is already limited on green space. There are ways to more intelligently design this space if occasional additional parking is the issue.

I am disappointed that parking spaces are taking precedence over green space - space that I see teeming with outdoor activities after school hours, every day and all year.
If you purchase property near a school you buy in to the inevitable fact that you will experience some inconveniences - people parking in your street and maybe in front of your house.
Some things are not necessarily rights, being able to park outside your home or having that space free at all times for guests.
I used to live opposite an elementary school - I looked out to the main entrance. Parents weren't allowed to drive by and drop off their kids - they had to park in neighboring streets and walk their kids to the school. This was considered safer actually! Of course some would try - there are always people who will bend the rules for whatever reason.
The street was filled with school busses twice a day but I could still get out of my driveway. Friends could park on my driveway if they visited and couldn't find a spot. And from the end of May until August it was very quiet.
In 11 years, I twice experienced my driveway being blocked by someone being inconsiderate - thats equal to where I currently live.
I have twice dropped my child off recently and on both occasions have been the only person to use the second lane method on the parking lot - everyone was in a single lane and I wasn't popular for following that rule as I went straight to the front, where the two lanes are supposed to merge!
This rule was made to get cars off the street during drop off and pick-up. Maybe that needs policing?
There are plenty of alternatives to Sappington during school rush hour so "use one of them" is my advice for the annoyed.
There will never be enough parking spots on days and evenings when the school has events.
And yes, field day.........

Once this field is concrete it will never be a green space again.

When my daughter went to Captain Elementary in Clayton we took over half the tarmac ( used for play and auxiliary parking for school events ) and converted it to green space. It was a huge improvement and still thrives and the trees now give shade and great interest to the area. We watched the children’s play become more creative and athletic as they climbed boulders and explored the dry riverbed we created.
Children NEED green space, please don’t take it away.

I agree. Thank you for starting the petition. Why should we take away our neighborhood green space so commuters using Sappington do not have long traffic lines a few minutes each day? If you live here, you know when to travel by the school and when to avoid it. NG Families can do our own part and commit to walking more and driving less.

As a Kirkwood tax payer and Physical Education teacher, this is a very bad idea. This hurts the physical education department. Not only will it hurt the Physical Education department, but it will hurt the Students even more! Many students will be impacted by this, just not during the school hours but during the weekends and summer months. If the district is really putting the best interest for kids, then they really need to keep the green space !!

As the person who has been having conversations with the parents/PTO, district, and City of Glendale police chief about the concerns of parking for over 5 years now thought it best to post a comment. I don't want to lose any green space either. But we have serious safety concerns due to our current pick up and drop off at NG. The city has bent over backwards to help and support us. But since parking on the narrow streets of Glendale is an issue (including our parents parking on lawns, blocking driveways, etc), we have put a burden on our neighbors. Parents consistently use the clearly marked fire lane when picking up students during the day or volunteering in the classrooms. Parents and grandparents regularly park in no parking areas. Parents and grandparents regularly don't follow our drop off and pick up guidelines. Parents and grandparents often block our bus zone. We have guardians who start lining up at 3:00 to pick up their children. We have to start and stagger our dismissal at least 10-15 min early because if we don't, the intersection of Sappington and Kirkham get backed up and blocked. The city leaders have urged us to keep that intersection clear for obvious safety reasons. We looked at having cars pick up behind school on our playground and exit on Chelsea but this would require cars driving in between our playgrounds making an even more serious safety issue. We are fortunate we have not had a major accident due to our parking issues. If we put off this project you will be putting your kids and our community at risk. When the discussions and planning were happening for the project, we took into consideration that we were losing some green space. But we also know we will have plenty of green space and once the field is laser graded and has irrigation added, we will be able to make sure the remaining green space we have left will be entirely usable. Currently our fields are not level, full of weeds, rocks, and dog do do. There will be plenty of space rema

I wholeheartedly agree with you Matt. If we want to be a community with abundant greenspace and with a pedestrian-friendly feel, this is the wrong move.

I live two blocks from NG and my kids love using the green space to run and play. I realize parking is limited there, however, we are accustomed to parking on side streets or simply walking to school when we can. We’ve been doing it for years as our oldest is now at KHS. I vote to save the green space.
