We are new to the community and one of the things that brought us to Glendale was the green space around NG school. I understand the need to get cars off Sappington, but I think they could utilize the already asphalt covered area better.
Construction is supposed to start on 5/29. I have met with the arthitect and the planning committee and have the latest drawings of the planned expansion. I will try and figure out a way to upload the drawing.

I don’t think we need to spend $200,000.00+ for more asphalt and less green space.

As it stands, our school is outgrowing its space. We do not have enough parking spots to accommodate the size of the school. (Did you know that the incoming Kindergarten class is about to add a SIXTH section?) People are moving to our tiny town in droves and with that will be some changes.
As someone who lives very close to the school, whose children walk to school, who enjoys using the school’s outdoor space as our “park”, and who rarely ever parks in the parking lot, I can understand the initial disappointment, BUT I still see how this is a necessity for the safety of our school and community because I am informed on the issue and the reasoning behind the decision to extend it.
My street, Brownell, is used as the overflow parking lot every single day. I’m sure those on Chelsea see the same. Visitors, including visiting teachers and volunteers, cannot park in the lot and have to find spots within a block or two of the school during the day. I, for one, cannot have daytime visitors park in front my own house because I have “regulars” from the NG who park on our street since there is no room in the parking lot. My elderly neighbor stands outside and writes notes on their cars for blocking her driveway daily. And this is just during school hours, the back up down Sappington during school drop-off & pickup also causes safety issues for our walkers and the non-school traffic who often gets frustrated and attempt to zoom around our crosswalks and children.
It is my understanding that the Glendale Police have been involved in this decision and we were going to be forced to make a change. One option was to start running traffic THROUGH our children’s playground out the Chelsea gate if our parking and pickup routine was not changed soon, and to include parking in what is now our basketball and foursquare play areas. I can only imagine the number of parents who would be in an uproar if cars were constantly looping through our two playgrounds as kids play there

I completely agree with you! Thank you for doing this. I’m totally against tearing up the fields up so people have a place to park cars.
