Keep Non-navigable Houseboats and Floating Houses on TVA Reservoirs!

Set up regulations but don't do away with them.

Leave house boats on the lakes

As long as these non-navigatible homes are properly maintained they should be allowed.

My family has two pre-1978 non-navigable boathouse because it was grandfathered. We applied for the all the proper permits and spent a lot of time and money rebuilding them both, in order to bring them up to all current standards. When I received my post card with the proposed decision, I was completely devastated. I thought worst case scenario was 30 years and now they're not giving anyone even that. Beyond that issue, how can something be grandfathered and then not? The thought of having to destroy our homes hurts my heart, especially since we went through all the effort and jumped through all the required hoops to make them right. My husband has two adult children and we have two babies (2 years and 4 months old). We bought this place so we could enjoy it as a whole family. We no longer go on family vacations, as Fontana Lake is where we spend our free time. I envisioned our babies growing up and bringing their own families someday and if this rule change passes this will never happen and my dreams will be shattered. We have pumped a lot of money into this local economy and will continue to do so as long as we have our homes. Beyond our own personal reasons, I am also concerned for the local marinas operators. We are at Alarka and have observed how hard Tony works to keep his place going and his customers happy. Most people don't realize how much boat-dock operators give, in order to keep a place like that going, even in the winter. Tony has been a great partner with TVA and what they are doing may destroy his business and it's so wrong on so many levels. I implore TVA to find it in their hearts to do that right thing, by finding a common sense solution, that works best for everyone who have worked hard to follow the basic standards. We love the lake and we love our homes. Please allow us to be able to continue to enjoy both as the previous generations have done in the past. Thank you.

We are looking at Lake Cumberland it is closer to OH and they actually enforce their rules.

Common sense is key

We live in Springboro, OH (South of Dayton). In the summer of 2006 we were invited down to Norris Lake to stay with some friends at their parents condo, The Point @ Shanghai. We had never been to Norris Lake but immediately fell in love with it, as did our young children who were 5 and 3 @ the time. We were invited down again the next summer and confirmed it was indeed, love @ first sight. So when our friends invited us down again in the Summer of 2008, we wanted to scope out a place of our own whether it be land for building in the future or a condo to use now. The funny thing is, the weekend prior to our 3rd visit to Norris Lake, we had been invited to Indian Lake (in Ohio) to stay with some other friends who had built a condo in a development called "Pirates Cove". We loved the place and idea so we put down a deposit to have our own condo @ Indian Lake (Pirates Cove)…which is about 1 hour from our home. Fast forward to the 3rd visit to Norris Lake w/our friends whose parents own the condo @ The Point @ Shanghai and once we arrived, we realized how much we really loved Norris and wanted to do something there instead. We spent the day on the lake and ended up going to Flat Hollow Marina to spend time @ another friend's floating house (we had no idea what that was). We were blown away about this little piece of heaven that literally floated on the water – it was a house on the water with all the amenities of a home and more (washer/dryer, full bathrooms, full kitchen, bedrooms, living area TV's, stereo, double deck, hot tub, slide, etc.)…we wanted to do something like this that we could enjoy NOW and make lasting memories with family and friends. We did a lot of research and asked a lot of questions about these floating homes and all answers pointed back to this was the right thing to do. Let the houseboats that are on the lake , stay on the lake !!

Further discussion is warranted before approving such a detrimental proposal on all floating house boat owners.

This would directly affect long term local residents who can't afford a$200,000 house boat. It is senseless and unnecessary.

Grandfather in existing floating houseboats!

Please keep previously permitted TVA non-navigable structures on Fontana lake.

These keep our community going even if only seasonal!! Norris Lake is a beauty & wonderful place to have houseboat or floating home. Nice to wake up to such beautiful scenery!!!

Our family has had a houseboat on Fontana since 1968. Four generations of the Stevens Family, extended family & friends have spent summers & holidays on Fontana. Our children & grandchildren learned to swim, fish & identify the stars at night. One of the coves "The Grizz Hole" is named for my husband, Randy "Grizz" Stevens in honor of his service with the 101st Air Assault "Rakasans" in Iraq during the 1st Gulf War. Please keep Fontana the way it is, available to all income levels & not just to the elite.

Had one in the family for the last 37 years and have too many memories to count. it would be ashamed to see them go away we need to find away to keep them

Implementing the sunset clause will be devastating to our economy. My background is accounting and I truly don't think anyone has done a thorough economic impact study on this. I plan to attend the meeting in May to fully discuss my concerns.
