I have had my houseboat since 1994. It was built in 1977 & grandfathered in. It is such a huge part of mine and my families lives. My sister was 12 when I bought it & she grew up there. I have raised my girls there. They are now 16 & 10 & made their 1st trip to the lake at 3 months & 3 weeks of age respectively. I bought my houseboat while I was still single and living at home. The next summer after I began working as a RN. I would go and spend weekends alone, just to fish. It is my safe haven & escape from this crazy world. I've been a single mom for 14 years. It's usually just me & my girls, sometimes my sister & her husband. She has an 8 week old son now & we are so looking forward to raising him on the water as well. My houseboat is old but in good condition. I haven't had electricity to it since 1995. We rough it. And I wouldn't have it any other way! My septic system runs off of deep cycle batteries. I love the coziness of my candles and oil lamps. The peace and quiet. I do understand TVA's concerns with the explosion in the numbers & huge sizes of floating homes now. Personally, I don't like it. I understand people wanting to be comfortable, but I do go to the lake for the luxuries of being home. I go to get away from home & be with the peace and quiet of the water. There are too many now. And not only that, there has been an explosion of development of the land surrounding the lake. Too many houses, marinas buying up every available space & building cabins to rent. It has simply become too crowded on the lake. And with that, too many who rent boats & jet skis who have never driven one & have no clue about water safety it respect for those of us who actually do still fish & love the peace and quiet. I honestly don't go like I used to & words can not express how much I miss the way the lake was 20 years ago, even 10 for that matter. I left one marina because of the constant tourists & parties at the dock. It became dangerous to have my children there. I'm not

So many families have made so many amazing memories on these lakes. My family has been spending summers on Norris Lake for over 20 years! I could not imagine my childhood without my lake memories and I am so thankful to be able to share this amazing place with my children.

Why take these beautiful homes off our lakes ? We are eventually not going to have any privileges or fun on our beautiful lakes. Next we will not be allowed to take our boats there. Get real people !!! These houseboats have been there for years and years. Don't think it has caused any major problems. Leave them there, let them be.
