We the undersigned petition Fairfax County Board Supervisor John Foust and Fairfax County Parks....
Because 287 young soccer players under 25 have cancer attributed to contact with tire crumb fields. Grass is safer than synthetic turf. It is Cheaper. Better for environment and players. Let's stay on a grass centric path!
I really thought this might just disappear into the void but looking at the response now it is clear people care just as much about these kids as I do. It feels like the tide is finally turning toward actual grass fields (thank goodness) and I honestly cannot wait to walk these names into the office.

If the fields remain grass ALL children can enjoy them. If you convert to crumb rubber turf you will be denying a huge amount of children whose parents actually care about their health and safety a safe space to play.
Additionally you will be endangering EVERY child at Forrestville Elementary School.

As the mother of a goalkeeper, I am VERY concerned about this new field. Any time my daughter plays on this type of turf field, she is covered in turf particles after an hour. Please look at our children's health as the primary concern, not the cost of the fields!

As a cancer survivor I don't want my daughter or our children "_playing_" on something that could be so toxic to their health. It's not worth it, especially considering the cancer causing rubber is more expensive then staying with grass.

Toxicity (lead, mercury, 11 known carcinogens), heat, injury rates, multed shoes and water bottles, ACL tears, turf-burn+MRSA, plus the MONEY...There is SO much evidence for grass and against synthetic turf. Grass is cheaper, safer, softer ---for our athletes & the environment.
Get tires out of your playgrounds too!

my boys grew up playing soccer in GF and played through out HS. Artificial turf is very hot when the temperature is hot. Most players do not like it. Bermuda grass is much better for players.

When my kids have fallen on turf fields in the past, they have gotten serious infections afterwards. PLEASE keep our grass!

We are a village committed to authentic nature. We trust healthy grass to do us good. If our grass is drenched in rain, we respectfully wait a day to play. We raise healthy children. We train wholesome champions who connect with nature.
