Please keep these teachers at Southern Middle school. These teachers helped my granddaughters academic achievements so high that they are graduating from Hagerstown Community College at the young age of 18.

As a grandparent with students there mr Albright is very needed with out him our chdren can not thrive in music please keep him there

Music helps develop the cognitive thinking skills in children. They need more music not less.

Everyone who goes to this school should be signing this. Taking away the arts of these children is like taking away who they are. Them kids have worked hard be who they are and the teachers have worked even harder. Who's to say they won't take away art next, or maybe sports will go next. Why not take away all academicsin ythat case. Just crush all dreams while you're at it. Just reconsider what your doing. I hope everyone stands together on this. The nerds, band geeks, jocks, preps, emos etc. Think of something you love and if it was being taken away from you. I was never in band or chorus. I do know how importantit is to those whom are though. Good luck and I hope it all works out.

Reducing these positions is a short sighted move to save money. There are numerous studies showing the OVERALL academic benefit of music programs: http://www.nafme.org/20-important-benefits-of-music-in-our-schools/ & http://www.childrensmusicworkshop.com/twelve-benefits-of-music-education/ are just 2 recent examples. Rather than reducing the positions and harming the students, why don't you force the administration and executives to take pay cuts and/or freezes?

This is truly disheartening after many years of hearing administrators pledge to keep music and arts in our school. Our children have benefited from the opportunities these teachers have developed at SMS. The lack of support for programs that research shows creates students who succeed academically and socially is the start of what will lead to more cuts that will hurt our children. I ask administration to not take away successful programs and exemplary educators.
