Keep Our music teachers full time at Southern Middle

Mr. Albright is the reason my son became a musician. He taught him to explore his musicality and saw something in him that he did not see himself. Because of the hard work and personal attention to my son, he went on to receive a scholarship to Jacksonville University and is still playing, performing and loving music. The decision to make Mr. A part time is unacceptable. He is a rock at the middle school and it would be a complete disservice to the children of Southern Anne Arundel County. This area needs his time and dedication, we have so many young musicians and artists.

As a daughter of a retired music teacher and a former student that was in the music program this saddens me to see music teachers cut to part time. Music is what got me through school. The teachers put their heart and souls into teaching kids.

Whether your child plays in the band or sings in the chorus or whether you did...Music is an integral part of a well-rounded education. It aids in the development of hand-eye coordination, math skills and yes, even history. So much comes from music. You're hurting more than helping if you slice money from the fine arts.

Music gave me opportunities in school I wouldn't have had. I have such great memories from participating in band, marching band, orchestra, jazz band and musicals! The people I've met and teachers I had were such positive influences in my life. Don't take away these valuable programs from kids.

Mr. Albright was my orchestra teacher in Middle School. His dedication to the students and the music motivated me to join even more orchestras outside of the school. Mr. Albright also helped me in my decision to major in Music Education and even gave me a book about college auditions. I will now be attending Penn State and studying Music Education at the School of Music. Mr. Albright's students go far, and this is no doubt accredited to him.

We need a full time band teacher at Southern Middle. Start your cuts at the top, not the positions that actually are there to be with the kids. Try eliminating waste in the top offices first.

Mr. Albright is an excellent teacher. SMS has a better music program than the high school. The reason is because of Mr. Albright's dedication to the students.

If it weren't for developing a passion for playing the flute in middle school, I would not have joined the marching band at Broadneck High School. Being a part of the band was the absolute BEST experience I had during my high school years. It is so important for students to have music education; please do not cut these positions.
