If it weren't for developing a passion for playing the flute in middle school, I would not have joined the marching band at Broadneck High School. Being a part of the band was the absolute BEST experience I had during my high school years. It is so important for students to have music education; please do not cut these positions.

These two outstanding teachers are important members of the staff at Southern Middle School. Please do not reduce their positions to part time positions. Please take into consideration the wants and needs of the parents, students and faculty.

I would like to see the administration of Southern Middle School and the Anne Arundel Public School System show their support of the Arts and of Long Term, Highly Experienced and Valued Teachers by not just putting numbers on a spreadsheet. We are placing too much emphasis and too many resources on PARC testing and standardized learning and devaluing Teachers. There needs to be a system wide effort to increase the numbers of students in our music program and we need to get parental involvement behind this effort.

I would like to see the administration of Southern Middle School and the Anne Arundel Public School System show their support of the Arts and of Long Term, Highly Experienced and Valued Teachers by not just putting numbers on a spreadsheet. We are placing too much emphasis and too many resources on PARC testing and standardized learning and devaluing Teachers. There needs to be a system wide effort to increase the numbers of students in our music program and we need to get parental involvement behind this effort.

The care and attention these two teacher demonstrate daily is endless. Mr. Albright's morning announcement selections constantly connects to educational and social topics. Mrs. Waller has prepared students for continued success by providing them a chance to grow. Our son just this Monday received a scholarship to the Berklee College of Music Summer Program. There is a direct relationship to his talent growth and his experience at SMS where he began to develop his confidence. Both our children are high academic achievers. Music has been one major attribute to their overall success.

The arts are a fundamental part of a well-rounded education, and one of the only outlets less-fortunate students have to express themselves in a safe and nurturing environment. Please do not help contribute to the impoverishment of our nation's cultural intellect. The university system itself is founded upon the rock of the Seven Liberal Arts, and music is part of the bedrock that is the quadrivium.
