Keep Our music teachers full time at Southern Middle

Southern Middle School is cutting the positions of both outstanding music teachers from full time to part time! This will have a negative ripple effect on all its feeder schools and Southern High School. We know not just from the body of research, but from our own experiences, that music has a life long positive impact in everyone's lives. Every middle and high school, regardless of size, should have a minimal staffing of one full time choral teacher and one full time instrumental teacher. Please sign our petition and share to keep music education strong in AACPS southern feeder system.

Cutting music teachers is a short-sighted solution that will have negative ramifications on your students' development of a well-rounded set of life skills. Why don't you divert some of the money spent on standardized testing—which contributes nothing to society as a whole in the long run—to retaining a full music program?

My daughter, Nicole Ennis, has been taught by Albright for the past three years. She has mentioned over the years that he is the best teacher she has ever had. Reducing his position would be a great injustice to the music program and to any and all future students. The anne arundel educational system is fortunate they have a teacher like Mr Albright, and SMS music program will never be the same Without him. Until he chooses to retire, appreciate his service and appreciate the education that only few teachers are truly able to provide our children, he being one of them.

It is becoming less often that one finds a teacher with a true passion for their work. Mr. Albright has that passion. It would be a shame to no longer benefit from that.

Mr. Albright is the reason my son became a musician. He taught him to explore his musicality and saw something in him that he did not see himself. Because of the hard work and personal attention to my son, he went on to receive a scholarship to Jacksonville University and is still playing, performing and loving music. The decision to make Mr. A part time is unacceptable. He is a rock at the middle school and it would be a complete disservice to the children of Southern Anne Arundel County. This area needs his time and dedication, we have so many young musicians and artists.
