Keep Our music teachers full time at Southern Middle

Our sons are high-school bound, but Mr. Albright and the music program have been an important part of their middle school experience!

Mr. Albright is a vibrant, enthusiastic teacher. My daughter loves music because of him. Mr. Albright not only affects the music lives of all the students at SMS but the entire community. He has been instrumental in helping our struggling band program in the High school get back on their feet. If he leaves now I am not sure what will happen to our wonderful music program at SMS...I'm afraid it will dwindle just like SHS did and that the progress made at SHS will go back to nothing...Mr. Albright is one of a kind and we NEED him in South County!

I was in orchestra from 5th grade through graduation. It was a HUGE part of making me who I am. I made some of my best friends through orchestra and cannot beleive it is even an option make it secondary to things like art and sports. Please reconsider this decision. It affects more people than you think!

Here's an idea...why not cut some of your bloated administrative salaries and I use the savings to keep these full time positions funded for the kids. Because when it comes down to it your supposed to be working for the kids not against them.

if you limit music making is less available - test scores in other areas will suffer dramatically. Please look past the fiscal year and weigh the impact it will have on the children long term.

Southern Middle School is cutting the positions of both outstanding music teachers from full time to part time! This will have a negative ripple effect on all its feeder schools and Southern High School. We know not just from the body of research, but from our own experiences, that music has a life long positive impact in everyone's lives. Every middle and high school, regardless of size, should have a minimal staffing of one full time choral teacher and one full time instrumental teacher. Please sign our petition and share to keep music education strong in AACPS southern feeder system.
