My father, Reno Randall, spent his life preserving the uniqueness of historical Ellensburg. Why now, start changing the historical aspects of Morgan Junior High.?

Keep it Morgan middle school

Thousands of Morgan graduates and probably an additional hundreds-of- thousands know where Morgan Middle School is located. Change the name and and only those who read the local newspaper will know the name of the new school. A part of hundreds of thousands of future conversations about Morgan will include an update--Morgan is no longer "MORGAN". Let's leave the name alone.

Changing the name would disengage us former Morgan students from caring about the school. And we are the parents, grandparents, aunts, and uncles of the current student body.

Leave the name as it is, Morgan Middle School is part of our history. One of the things that make our community unique is the value and priority placed on the towns history. If the reputation is bad, than change the reputation. It took several attempts to get people to approve funding in the first place, don't turn around and offend everyone by changing the name in the process.

I think that two teams called the Ellensburg Bulldogs would be very confusing for all involved. So, to differentiate, the media, sportswriters, and others who used to refer to the Bulldogs, or the Ellensburg Bulldogs would now have to write out Ellensburg High School Bulldogs. Similarly, the media could no longer simply refer the the Tigers. Instead they'd need to be identified as the Ellensburg Middle School Bulldogs. All the teams in all the leagues that play games against the teams at these two Ellensburg schools would need to re-configure all their own schedules and programs. From another angle, think of the people that still have Tigers memorabilia and team letter jackets would no longer have the historical connection. I think that changing the name to Ellensburg Middle School Bulldogs is misguided. I think it is Big City overthink for a small community with a long and rich history and real traditions. In Ellensburg, branding is what we do on cattle ranches.

I'm a 1964 graduate of EHS and have taught school for 32 years in five communities in eastern Washington. I find the suggestion of changing the name of Morgan Junior High (or Morgan Middle School) along with changing the mascot and school colors to be a ludicrous idea! The unintended consequences would be the greatest difficulty. Stationary, signage, school records, uniform costs, etc. would present huge costs and problems. Then there is the big issue of tradition. I strongly oppose this unneeded and ill conceived suggestion of change!

To change the name of Morgan would disenfranchise every one of the alumni. How many people does that add up to? All of the future reunions would have a dark shadow of death cast upon them, as the school would officially no longer exist! How fun! Just so some egomaniacal narcissist (either on the School Board or who has the "ear" of someone on it) can play "school designer" seems like a really shallow reason.

I went to Morgan Middle School, my sister went to Morgan Middle School and it's part of who I am and all those kids are who grew up, made mistakes, made lifelong friends, and learned in Morgan Middle School. Keep the mascot and keep the name, keep the history of our school alive.

If you insist on changing the name of the school, you may as well insist on changing the names of those in our community who went there.

The black and orange sweaters were so vibrant and beautiful. Nicer to me than the plain blue and white dogs.

Keep the name, mascot and the colors! The physical building may wear out and need change, but symbols are meant to last forever! I'm a 1952 alum of MJHS.

This is a bunch of people that are not from Ellensburg and they do not have clue what history and tradition mean. Leave our school colors and mascots alone. You are undoing all the history for all the many years of students that attend and loved that school. Your reasons for doing these changes are totally ridiculous. Put it to a vote of the people. I can't imagine any reason for doing what is being proposed.

I think they should keep the name etc and suggest that they have a display tell about Pops Morgan and his vision for the community when they originally built the school so people will understand the history and why the community insisted it be kept for future generations. "Go Tigers"

It is crazy to change a beloved mascot, colors, etc. I went to Morgan & I still remember every word of the pep song. There is NOTHING offensive about it!!

Do not change the name , mascot and colors of Morgan School. It is the history of the school. Its been there for years. It needs to stay, it the history of Ellensburg.
