One memory of coach I have is I was going through a tough time mentally with life outside of school and sports. I got emotional during practice and had left the gym and broke down by myself in locker room. He walked out of his own prwctixe to tend to me and make sure I was okay. He Talked to me for a while, and motivated me to keep going. When I got home that night I looked in my basketball bag and he left me a note that said “I believe in you” ❤️

Mike is a great Coach & even better man! He cares greatly about this community and this school. He is the most dedicated man to his family and his job more than anyone knows! He only wants the best for this school & his athletes! -SGT Chris Butterfield CPU Alum 2003, Iowa Army National Guard RRNCO

Coach cares very much for his players and they care for him. He is a positive influence on how they grow as adults and keeps in touch with them even after they graduate. Please keep him in this position

Saw one game last year and was very impressed with this coach. I don’t know much about him or details but I have had 3 kids play HS and college basketball and I would welcome him coaching any of my kids.

I know Mike to be a person of good character, respectful, hard working, and a good leader. CPU is fortunate to have a person like this coach and lead the boys B-ball program. KEEP HIM!!!

Mike is a very down to earth guy who is just very misunderstood right now. He obviously didn't mean to send a kid to the hospital I mean what coach doesn't give their players an extreme workout and make them do it in the rain and cold. Plus it's not like there's been any other incidents before this one. Oh wait...

I viewed Mike coaching 10-11yr Olds in about 6 games this past winter. His manor was significantly different to opposing coaches. While others would scream and yell or belittle the youngsters, Mike would explain and reapply his ideas. Yes, sometimes the voice would have to be raised to get attention. But show me a parent who hasn't raise their voice. Having a "committee to go after" coaches w/o having a chance for clarification, has a tendency to deflate and degrade a school and their programs. I've seen it happen in schools.

He did put a young man in harms way. A young man spend 5 days at U Of I hospital because of him! That young man had rhabdomyolysis, which can be deadly or cause permanent disability. A certified trainer warned a parent before the “optional” get better week…aka hell week…that this level of condition could cause rhabdomyolysis. The young mans doctors opinion were unanimous that this workout caused this condition. No notice was sent to any of the other players parents by the coaches or anyone at CPU. Other parents should have know so they could watch for this as the symptoms can take days to show up. You are right he did not put one player in harms way he put dozens of players in harms way. If your child was the one in the hospital for 5 days from this neglect how would you feel? If you were not informed of young mans condition and your child had symptoms that you were not on the look out for and caused them to have issues how would you feel?

While parents or students may not agree with Mike Halac’s practice plan, Mike Halac would not maliciously or irresponsibly put a student in harm!

Coach Halac has been positive factor in my life since he stepped foot in the gym the summer of his first year at CPU. He changed the dynamics of not just basketball at our school but sports in general. Winning back to back conference championships while I was there my junior and senior years. That hadn’t happened in a very long time. Also w the addition of adding “get better week”. He opens it not just ti basketball but all sport and anyone who want to join. He wants the best for each sport and the whole school entirely. He has helped me w many life situations. Just being there to talk and have someone that I know will give me the right words, not just saying what I want to hear. Also just checking in on the alumni as much as he can. Shows that he cares for us and it’s much much greater than just hoops.

People gotta realize this has nothing to do with whether he’s a good person/coach, it’s did his actions result in player becoming ill and hospitalized there’s nothing else to it

People love to hate! If Coach Halac was so evil why would he text me when I didn't show up to practice to make sure i'm okay? Why would he build us up after a tough loss instead of tear us down? Why would he sacrifice time he could be spending with his family to stay at the school and watch film to get us prepared for our next game? People who don't feel like playing basketball anymore are always quick to blame it on the coach, when truly it is their own work ethic to blame.

I feel bad for you that you can't own your family name.

You’re right Abe people need can’t hide behind fake names and say what they say. My names Ben Hansen and Mike Halac has ruined the sport I and many others loved and grew up playing. I’ve had coaches that made a bigger impact in my life In days than he has ever in the two years I played for him. If I had a list of all the people who quit and a reason why, every single one of them would respond with “Halac”. You want this “great guy” as your coach? The same “great guy” that put a kid in the hospital for 5 day? The same “great guy” the refused to let one of his players he “cares dearly” about recover because of his asthma? The same “great guy” that punish players for not putting basketball in front of any other sport by taking away their starting spots of giving them very little time in games? The same “great guy” that had 25 players out freshman year cutting down 8 who played all 4 years? The same “great guy” that picks on that one kid who can’t make an 8 and 30 and makes his players redo until they get it? Every single time we have lost a game due to his poor coaching he asked what “we” did wrong. He’s selfish. He’s selfish enough to hospitalize a kid for 5 days because of a workout that no D3, D2, D1 coach would put their athletes through. WAKE UP! if that was your kid in the hospital for 5 days, I bet your ass this petition would have 0 signatures.

Yea we gotta hide behind these burner accounts because we don’t have the right last name and clearly people around the community aren’t afraid to send kids to the hospital
