As a U.S.P.T.A teaching professional for many years, it is ridiculous to limit this program to only the best. Who can judge how many great players would be turned away from this beautiful sport? In tennis, it is well known that many of the weakest players in H.S. when given the time and opportunity become the best. Why not leave well enough alone?

As the former captain and four-year member of the Poolesvile Girls tennis team, I've witnessed firsthand how we have to limit the size of our team because of the limited number of courts we have (4). If girls and boys tennis were to be combined, our team would be limited <8 girls and <8 boys, which is not enough to compete with within genders.

This is an issue for most high schools as most schools do not have the funds to add more courts and don't have enough courts for 2 teams (Poolesville doesn't even have enough courts for 1 full team).

As the former SGA president and memeber of underrated teams at PHS, I know how important it is for the athletes voices to be heard.

Poolesville is a small school and with only FOUR tennis courts, it's unfit to think that it can hold both a boys AND girls tennis team. A lot of athletes also play a spring sport, like track and field, and aren't very optimistic about being unable to do it or to choose between the two. Overall, it's a bad idea and mcps shouldn't do it because why?

For some schools with a smaller amount of courts (ex: Poolesville High School only has 4) combining girl's and boy's tennis in the same season would not work and would prove to be very difficult.

Switching the girls tennis season to the spring would seriously impair our ability to play the sport we love. Having only four courts and one coach is not enough, and many schools are not ready to increase the amount of courts or pay for another coach. Doing this would hurt both boys and girls tennis teams. This switch will discourage student athletes from playing sports and committing to a school sports team which should never be the goal of any school system. Keep MCPS girls tennis in the fall.

As a member of the Poolesville High School tennis team this would seriously impact my life in a negative manner. Our school only has 4 courts. This is not nearly enough courts to accommodate two teams at once. Other schools may be able to handle it but smaller schools like Poolesville will suffer. We also don't have enough staff willing to coach two teams. Another more personal impact on my life would be that it would not allow me to pursue one of my passions; musical theater. If the girls tennis season is in the spring I would not be able to participate in the spring musical. Tennis and theater are two very important staples in my life and having to choose between them would absolutely break my heart. I would have to decide between friends and would miss out on one of my passions. I strongly urge The Maryland State Athletic Association to keep girls tennis in the fall as it would be a disaster if changed. Everyone I have talked to about this pending legislation is against it. Listen to the people, and the players and do not move the girls season.

I don't see any positives in moving the girls tennis season to the Spring to coincide with the boys tennis season. Currently in the Fall the girls enjoy a full roster of players and access to all of the courts. If this move takes place both the boys and girls teams will have to reduce the number of players on their teams and share the already limited number of courts. Players that would normally make the team will be left out from participating since both teams will have to reduce their numbers.
