Dear Bryna, thank you for your support and enthusiasm during these days! I've already announced Victory under my petition at www.change.org and thanked all 769 supporters that signed that petition. I still can't believe that we made it considering the secrecy and lack of communication from the museum bureaucrats and the Heritage Office. Right now we should not stop and keep reminding journalists to ask uncomfortable questions - how did it happen? who will pay for all these errors? I am looking forward to meet you personally one day. Two women made something very important just because they believed in people, art and democracy. www.change.org/p/minister-of-canadian-heritage-do-not-sell-marc-chagall-s-eiffel-tower-1929-from-the-national-gallery-of-canada

The painting will not be sold after an emergency meeting of the National Gallery board last evening. Thanks to Bryna Cohen for her hard work in organizing this campaign to keep the Chagall work. https://www.theglobeandmail.com/politics/article-national-gallery-preparing-to-cancel-chagall-sale-sources/

Keep Chagall in Canada. Anyone who calls one of two Chagall paintings in the national collection a "spare" is not fit to be director of the National Gallery of Canada.

Marc Chagall painting should remain part of our NGC. It helps to define and provides a cohesive piece in that period of art history in our collection.

It seems a hasty and unnecessary sale of a unique and exciting piece of artwork!

From the start, the sale of the Chagall has not made sense -never was in danger of leaving Canada - now it looks likely to remain so for heaven's sake, pull it from the auction - it's a delightful piece - and put it on display. Bet your attendance will increase!

Important to keep the Chagall in Ottawa

Fear that Jacques-Louis David's Jerome Hears the Trumpet of the Last Judgment will leave Canada is greatly exaggerated. One of the Quebec galleries is likely to buy it. Let's please keep the Chagall and, for crying out loud, hang it in the Gallery where we can all see it. painted in 1779 by

Shocking news and shame on the National Gallery. Let the fundraising begin without delay.

As one of Marc Chagall's heirs defending and protecting his work worldwide, we are shocked about the CEO's decision of National Gallery of Canada to sell this masterpiece constituting an essential milestone of cultural heritage for all Canadians.

This is a very significant Chagall painting. It should be on display all the time. Eiffell Tower is a very happy painting....keep it and show it.

Stop this travesty! Fire Mayer and keep this important artwork. How long has this been in the works? Is it a coincidence that the NGC Board of Trustees voted for a new disposition policy only a year ago? It's an interesting read. Under this new policy NGC can sell any work in the collection under section 5. Read the criteria and find the loop hole that is being used in this sale and can be used to sell off more and more of our collection. https://www.gallery.ca/sites/default/files/documents/policies/Disposition-Policy_Approved-by-the-BoT-on-14-March-2017-ENG.pdf

This attempt at fundraising for future art purchases is lazy and shortsighted. This is a Chagall, for goodness sake. This brilliant work absolutely deserves to maintain pride of place in Canada's national art collection.
