This is so sad for all these people to be bashing the school, some christians are judging things that got out of hand. we aren't perfect people. Yes, i agree the school administration did stuff and it wasn't correct but do you really have the right to judge? People really, some of these teachers were fired for putting false stats and called kids anorexic or other bad things that are not acceptable. This petition is not about Luscombe any more but bashing our school, what does that look like to other schools or other people? Showing people that our own teachers and students that are supposedly christians while were bashing our school. You can't be calling yourself christians while bashing other Christians. Take care of yourselves. Your just as hypocritical as people say about Duda and Prewitt. Remember the women by the well that people were going to stone, but Jesus said if you have sins you can throw a stone at her but no one did. Look at yourself bashing and calling our administration hypocrites. Your just like the people at the well, so look at yourself before you judge...

Thanks for sharing. I too am a former teacher who taught for a number of years without any major issues or things to improve on. Then all of a sudden that all changed when the Board and Mrs Duda placed me on an Intensive Action Plan. When Mr Luscombe says he doesn’t know why he is not getting his contract renewed, he is telling the truth. I had no clue why I was put on this Plan. I mean I knew what the plan said and knew what they wanted me to prove but I didn’t know why. It was things that no other administrator ever told me I had a problem with (in fact what previous administrators told me were my strengths were now somehow my weaknesses).
I too like the previous post did what was asked (it wasn’t too difficult as it was all things I was already doing; I just had to document and “prove” it). I did what they asked and was given a contract for the next year with more “proving” to do that year.
I knew who was behind it at the time and tried to explain to my superiors that what they were hearing were lies. It didn’t matter as that fell on deaf ears and the Admin had already made up their mind about me (they did that without ever actually stepping foot in my classroom and purely based off hearsay from Mrs Prewitt and Board members).
For every student who doesn’t like a teachers class, there are others who love that teachers class. That’s the nature of education and having multiple styles of learning.
DMCS has become a business where the “customer” is always right. The problem is “customers” are uneducated kids who might not actually know what is best yet. Does a student know the best way to teach grammar? Or might the teacher trained in it have a better idea?

I am a former Des Moines Christian School teacher. I was put on an Intensive Action Plan with no former conversations with administration on items to improve upon. I did what I was supposed to do for the plan for the spring semester and was given the chance to "prove" myself for one additional contract year. During the "proving myself" stage, I was not allowed to have conversations with my students about their faith journey's as the students shared too many personal details with me about what was going on in their life (nothing inappropriate, but things that DMCS students "can't" struggle with (pornography, addiction, sexual issues, etc.)). I was no longer allowed to share my testimony as it was "too bad" to share with DMC students. I was told that DMCS was a business, not a church and that my relationships with my students were more meant for a youth leader at their church. I had to have parents chaperone me at any event outside of the school day to prove I was worthy of the job.
After a few months of the new year and contract, I realized the fight to stay was no longer worth it. While I love the Lord and loved working for the students of DMCS, I could no longer work for the administration. I was thankfully offered the opportunity to resign instead of being fired, unlike other teachers that were put in similar situations (aka Mr. Luscombe). It's clear that the situation has gotten worse since my departure. This school could be an excellent educational institution that promotes Christ at the center. Revealing sin is one way to free DMCS from the burden that it is experiencing.

It sounds pretty clear to me why people cannot take the evidence forward. Would Mrs Duda even listen? Would Mr Lambert? Sounds like Mrs Duda and the Superintendent prior to Mr Lambert did not listen when this happened before. Who is going to listen to a former teacher or former student with what Mrs Prewitt would call “an axe to grind”?
Teachers were put on “Intensive Action Plans” and contracts not renewed with a lot less evidence. I’d say the evidence is starting to pile up on Mrs. Prewitt about the type of person she really is. Don’t be fooled y’all ! That’s what everyone always says after the fact...”well I didn’t think she was like that” or “I never thought that could happen here”. Don’t be fooled!

@jeffO Students will not leave their name because they are well aware of what kind of crap goes on inside the school. Students know that they cant say what they want or voice the way they feel, being afraid of punishment and being looked down on in the school. So calling students a "Coward" probably isnt the best choice of words...leaving my name out myself.

Christianity just means you believe in God, not that you choose to live in honor of him. People hide behind that title all the time. Integrity and doing what’s right over what benefits you is lacking, anyone can call themselves or their organization “Christian”
Their actions define them as followers. The administration over seeing all of this would not get enough support to even have a petition, that speaks volumes. The DMC reputation has changed so much over the years, it is evident on so many levels. God doesn’t want bigger nicer facilities and lots of numbers. He wants followers of his word. Those that have earned a reputation up their have done just that, earned it.

This has happened to great teachers in the past. Now it is happening to mr. Luscombe. Dmcs has now become Des Moines private school. There is no Christian in the admin any more. In the halls I see administrations kids walking around with cloths that do not fit in the dress code but nothing happens. Discipline has always been a problem at dmcs. When I was in elementary I used to get bullied. But the kid that was bullying me never got in trouble because one of their parents work here. The families that give the most money to the school their kids only get warnings if they get in trouble. They never get detention. Last year there was a case of inappropriate behavior and the person that did it willingly told me. I told because that should not be happening. They only got a warning and got let go. NOTHING HAPPENED!!! Now when I’m in the Hall way when these admin workers say hi to me and smile how can they when they are taking a great educator from me and they are taking good life experience from my future. I’m not saying it’s bad to say hi. BUT THEY ACT LIKE NOTHING IS HAPPENING!! Again I’m not saying it’s bad to say high but when they are not trying to fix the situation they are creating even more divisions. I’m glad to put my name on this comment because I am not afraid to let people to know what my thoughts are. ( I’m not saying it’s bad to put anonymous on your comment. And I’m not saying the name of the people I mentioned because we can’t change the past but we can change the future of dmcs and it will take all of us kids and adults)- Kacey Pierce

The point for why the comments switched this way was because good people wanted to know why this was happening to Mr. Luscombe and those before him and those after him. There is something deeper going on here and now that it’s been exposed, Mrs P and her family or friends are going to cry wolf.
I think by now we in the DMCS community know that the petition will probably do nothing to keep Mr Luscombe here. However, if we can do something to stop this from happening by exposing the evil behind it then that half a win. Are we implying that Mrs Prewitt went directly to Mrs Duda and told her to get rid of Luscombe? No. But we are saying it is evident that she’s had a role in some of these shady dealings. Not a direct role but an indirect role. Maybe dropping little hints here and there to sow the seed.
I talked to a former staff member who told me all about how she operated. In fact, this staff member told me they once told Mrs Prewitt something that wasn’t true just to see whether Prewitt could be trusted. Sure enough, in an evaluation meeting with Administrators, this very fact was brought up. That made it pretty clear that Mrs Prewitt had passed this information into the Admin and it was used against the former teacher as evidence to be placed on an “Intensive Action Plan”.
Of course Mrs Prewitt was “uninvolved” in the non-renewal of Mr Luscombe’s contract. If she were directly involved, then Mrs Duda would not need her job because Mrs Prewitt could just do it for her. There’s no question though that she has worked her influence. Mrs Prewitt, we are starting to catch on to how you work. You’ve been around long enough and the truth is starting to come out.

And this, my friends, is the one of the EXACT reasons Christians get a bad rap. We are great at preaching, but not very good at practicing. Please, let’s keep our Christian values front and center here, if possible. Obviously, a lot of people are very passionate about this. But we are all Christians FIRST AND FOREMOST, right? We are ALL sinners, and we are ALL in need of God’s grace - every single one of us - me, you, everyone. Is it at all possible to use this petition for something constructive? Can we maybe stop criticizing each other and try to figure out a way that we can work together as Christians and find peaceful solutions to our problems? We may not agree with everything the administration is doing, but they have done some very good things for our school. If you can’t see that then I would question your judgement. Our administrators are not perfect beings, but no human being is. Mr. Luscombe is not perfect either (I mean, he’s close, but... (insert smiley face here). None of us are even close to perfect. If we were, we would have never needed Jesus Christ to walk the earth. We are all sinful children of God, however, in this situation we are behaving as if we are a collection of spoiled two-year-olds. And for Pete’s sake, how hurtful is it to call people out by name? Is that really how we as Christians should be behaving toward our fellow Christians, or toward anybody? If you are sinless, I invite you to cast the first stone. Whomever posted earlier on this petition that people are watching, they are absolutely correct. People are watching... they are watching Christians gut each other. Non-Christians are probably getting a kick out of all this... oh, don’t take them seriously, it’s just the Christians again fighting to the death to see who is more Christian. And lastly, before I jump down from my proverbial soapbox, may I just plead for the Lord Jesus to help us all, for we know not what we do.

Unbelievable.... Congratulations on completely twisting this around from someone who is not getting a contract due to reasons that are only known to him and the administration into libeling someone that was completely uninvolved. Well played. If you actually work with this supposedly diabolical person, you have two choices. Either tell your superior, or quit. If what you are spewing is correct, there should be absolutely no fear of reprisal...of course, you know that it's not true, so you'll continue to go this route.
You are obviously very unhappy. You are not being forced to work there, no more than kids are being forced to go to school there. I'm guessing this person or persons are former teachers or former students with axes to grind. Come out from behind a gutless website, and let someone know!
I hope all of those that have hooked their names to this petition are pleased on what this has devolved into. Congratulations!

I cannot help but wonder why you refer to Mrs. Prewitt as “the person mentioned”.
Are you afraid to say the name Mrs Prewitt? To the DMCS 12th grader, thanks for speaking up. I too am a student at the school and have heard from my parents and their friends that she is not to be trusted. So here we are getting rid of a trustworthy man and great teacher in Mr. Luscombe all because Mrs. Prewitt helped start complaints about him. It seems like maybe she should go and he should stay.

I once accidentally walked in on a teacher on the phone saying “add them to the list and we we will get them out of here too”.
My parents have always encouraged me to be bold in my faith but I was scared to say anything at the time. It is now clear that something needs to be said. The teacher I heard say that was Mrs. Prewitt.
