Keep Luscombe at DMCS

At the beginning of this year, I struggled with Algebra II. I still do. I definitely thought that Luscombe’s teaching was the problem. I let my inner fleshly problems, such as pride and laziness, dictate that I was not the reason why I was struggling in math. However, as the year progressed, I realized that Luscombe’s teaching is both good and filled with truth. His teaching is the perfect preparation for college and future readiness. I realized that it is has been a blessing from God that I have struggled with his class. It has taught me how to be more like an adult, how to persevere in my learning, how to advocate for myself when I need help, and how to understand math in a deeper and more complex way. His class has expanded my heart and mind in so many ways, and I will forever be thankful for that. Luscombe is doing a great service for this school. He has embraced generations of kids who have life a little too easy sometimes. He has challenged us and reminded us that life is not easy. Life will get tough. And what will we do when life gets tough? Will we sit back in our chairs and complain that it is someone else’s fault? Will we go crying to our parents that it is too hard? Will we be just like the world? Or will we endure and work harder than we have ever had to before? I hope that that we will not be like the world. I hope that this school will allow Luscombe to stay and continue to raise up strong, hard-working kids. Taking Luscombe away from this school would be a huge mistake. It would be easy to just hire a new math instructor for the upperclassmen. It would be easy to hire a new young professional and save a decent amount of money. But that would be easy. Are we really just going to take it easy? The easy decision is not usually the right decision. DMC’s mission is to equip minds and nurture hearts to impact the world for Christ. Clint Luscombe has equipped my mind and nurtured my heart for the Lord more than any other teacher in my li

Mr Luscombe is an amazing teacher!! I ended up being a teacher myself, and seeing how he was able to meld fun and learning made a huge impact on that decision. His was the only math class I ever did well in.

I haven’t had Mr luscombe yet for math but I look forward to it. He is a great baseball coach and has taught me a lot in that sport.

While I did not know Mr. Luscombe personally, his reputation had many great stories and examples in my family discussions every holiday!

Mr. Luscombe is an outstanding teacher and role model. He is a special part of DMCS and I believe he still has a lot to offer future DMCS students. The school should take a second look at the reasons to retain Mr. Luscombe and consider letting him make the decision as to when the time is right to move on.

I love Mr Luscombe so much. I came from another school and had a terrible teacher, and I have understood his teaching so well. He always helps us understand, even when it takes a long time. I don't know what DMC would be like without him

Never had this guy as a teacher but next to Caves of course he just embodies what Des Moines Christian school is all about, I feel he belongs there for a greater reason than just academics

Mr. Luscombe is a teacher that knows the students well. He is able to engage and motivate them to actually learn the course not just pass the test. His knowledge and experience allows him to mentor and explain tough material in such a way that the students can grasp it. He teaches subjects that should not be utilizing multiple choice tests or essay answers. His are hands on classes and the students are allowed to learn and grow. He is also a coach that participates rather that sitting on the sidelines. It is not unusual to see him out running with the teams. This is not a teacher to lose and if so it is a sad day for DMC and the student body.

I have a unique experience knowing Mr. Luscombe. When I attended DMCS in the first graduating class, Mr. Luscombe was one of my teachers. I enjoyed his knowledge and humor in the classroom. He always showed how much he cared about his students. Now I have had 2 kids at DMC that have had the pleasure of having him as their teacher also! What a blessing for me to know that they were going to have a great mentor, teacher, and Christian example in the classroom! Because I experienced it first hand. When I was asked a year ago to walk out on the football field in honor of the alumni of 1987, I asked if we could include Mr. Luscombe in the honor as well. That's how important he is to his students (past and present) and to this school!

Mr. Luscombe was by far one of my favorite teachers at DMC and is a large part of why I majored in mathematics. He challenges students: I did well in my college math courses because Mr. Luscombe taught me to think critically and persevere through difficult problems. Even more importantly, he cares about his students. I recall many students (myself included) spending their lunch hour in his classroom simply because we enjoyed spending time with him. Administration should listen to listen to the students: you’re making a mistake in letting Mr. Luscombe go.
