Schools shut down in March with a national case count of 1500. We had 13,000 new cases in Texas alone yesterday. HELP KEEP OUR CHILDREN SAFE, DON'T SEND THEM BACK TO SCHOOL!!

I did not sign the petition because it is too limiting. What we need from the City of Lubbock Health Department is communicating the serious effects of this virus to marginalized populations. Creating presentations and educational materials to be shared with the Lubbock ISD families, students, faculty, and staff would also be helpful. Hopefully more people will choose to continue their child(ren)’s education virtually if they are made aware of the risks in an official, easy-to-read publication. The Health Department should also recommend a limit to the in-person capacity for school buildings, so that we may ensure proper protocols are realistically enforceable by school personnel.

Covid infections are spiking in Texas and breaking records. Delaying in-person classes would give the community more time to stay-in-place and bring the numbers down to a safe level before gathering people together in an indoor space. Online learning and not having meals provided in schools are incredibly difficult for families too; but risking the health of children (a small percentage of whom will develop symptoms and may die) and having them become asymptomatic carriers affects the entire community. And, though I don't live in Lubbock, I have friends I'd like to visit there and a toddler of my own but I would not feel safe visiting if the schools reopen too soon.

Don't succumb to misguided political pressures. With the current measures in place, and if we would also ban indoor dining, we can get ahead of this after period 1.

There is no ideal situation here. But until kids, parents and staff can safely attend in- person school, LISD should be online. Let's do online only for the 1st grading period this year until things settle down in Lubbock.

The cost of closing our eyes and plunging into this vast medical experiment will be incalculable. If we forge ahead with the bold claim ‘the science should not stand in the way,’ the science will catch up to us.

I am currently teaching summer school, and we are all doing our very best to maintain safe and healthy practices(students included). It is clear to me, though I LOVE being in the classroom, that we are not ready to be back on campus at full capacity. It pains me to say this, but the wise thing to do is protect the health and safety of our students, teachers, and families. It is inconvenient, and we know it is not best practice, but there is no such thing as best practice in the midst of such challenging situations.
