I am concerned about this proposal. I have seen a number of naturally smaller kids join rowing and be given the opportunity to compete at a high level and succeed against other children of similar size. This opportunity does not happen in many other sports (hockey for example). By taking this away you are taking away the ability for these children to have these competitive experiences. My son rowed fly weight last year and mid weight this year, my daughter rowed open weight - at no time has the school ever tried to encourage inappropriate suggestions to lose or drop weight. If this is why this proposal is being put forward - then the fix should be to fix your coaches - not to change the sport. The unintended consequences of kids not participating due to a competitive disadvantage should be seriously considered.

I hope this isn't a political correctness move. Regardless I've seen the effort put in by lightweight rowers and taking it away makes zero sense to me whatsoever. Canada is a great rowing country and hurting the foundation of our rowers is absurd.

As a parent of a true fly weight. This will be very defeating for her to row against mid weights she lightweight is already above her weight class

By changing the age limit to 19, you are not only removing this category for high school students, but also many entering first year university. This is a sport that includes all. By removing this, you will lose way too many athletes!

16 of the 36 schoolboy events are lightweight, are we really just going to cut all these events and force lightweights to compete with people in a whole mother weight division?
