As a former K-12 English supervisor and Director of Accelerated and Enriched Instruction for Montgomery Maryland Public Schools, I recognize the deep underpinnings that the study of Latin provides students. Please reconsider and allow this program to continue. Knowledge for knowledge sake is equally important as career-oriented study for our children, who are destined to achieve at highest levels.

Latin has been extremely useful in teaching me roots of English words and some of the five love languages. It is still essential and can be applied to the modern world even though it is a dead language.

I’m a former student from BSMS, and Latin was incredibly useful for me during my next English classes.

My Latin studies in middle school are still a source of education and delight after more than 65 years. And all students should have this opportunity.

I really hope the Latin program at Brown Summit is kept because it’s such a valuable part of the school and has helped so many students. Classes like Latin give students skills that go far beyond just learning a language. It would be really disappointing to see such a unique and meaningful program removed.
