When I heard Brown Summit was removing the latin courses for students I was appalled. Many students, including my niece, have long enjoyed the challenge of this language, and the deep satisfaction to be found in keeping it alive.
While any cut to any school curriculum is something to be saddened by, latin in particular seems quite heinous. While easy to ignore due to its age, Latin is the source of the romance languages, french, italian, spanish, romanian, etc. By teaching these students latin you pave the way for them to have a better grasp of these other languages, and of course English as well.
Not to mention the understanding of latin where it applies to srudents with a future passion in art, medicine and history.
Please reconsider this decision for the good of Brown Summit's student body.

Latin was my child's favorite subject throughout his time at Brown Summit. What he learned in Latin significantly strengthened his foundation that has helped him succeed in High School.
His sister will be at Brown Summit as a 6th grader in the fall, and not having Latin as part of the curriculum hurts the overall excellence Brown Summit is known for. Please reconsider.

Latin helps students build vocabulary, improve critical thinking, and better understand history, science, and many modern languages.
