It is important for the students who are studying Japanese and also will come to undersstand the 2 cultures to have a target and to be assessed and given some qualification. Japanese A-level has been standing for that respect for a long time. The Japanese language should be treated fairly with other languages. I can't Believe that the Japanese A-level will dissapear after the thousands of educators have made a great effort to teach Japanese to the students. It is very regrettable to both of them.

This will add diversity to the usual core of European languages most schools offer. It also allows children to learn about Asian culture which is rarely covered in schools in the UK.

Is is a very practical language for UK citizens. Think about all the Japanese companies operating in UK, providing employment, and about all the Japanese tourists flocking every corner of the British Isles.

Our primary school is home to 27 different languages. We teach Japanese from nursery through to Year 6 and it is a perfect vehicle for increasing our students' understanding of cultures outside of Europe. We find it is an accessible language for children with dyslexia and the culture of Japan is very different to ours and we find of great interest to the children. There are an increasing number of primary schools teaching Japanese and terminating the Japanese A Level would prevent these children from progressing their language skills to a higher level. In Bath several A level Japanese students have gone on to study Japanese at degree level. Japanese is a significant world economy and it is therefore important that young people are able to learn its language and its culture in order to further good relationships between our two countries.
