Japanese is a unique and interesting language for pupils to learn and also provides an amazing experience for them and their families taking part in school exchanges. It would be a great shame to take away such a valuable opportunity.

We need to keep A Level to provide students more choices to learn foreign languages, not only European languages. Keeping A Level Japanese contribute the real meaning of globalization in the secondary education.

It took me a long time to realise how learning Japanese became a gateway into a culture beyond our own. This GCSE allows the youth of the UK to make that discovery early in their lives, and forge early interest in languages, communications, culture and global understanding. In an age when this is becoming increasingly important, we shouldn't be slashing the languages on offer in schools.

I'm a Japanese language teacher in UK and I 've got some English students who are aiming to take Japanese A level in thier future. I do hope Japanese A level still redevelop after 2018.

As the mother of a seven year old who is learning Japanese as a fun group activity with her friends, I support this petition as I would like her to be able to go all the way to A level with it, should she wish to in the future. There is great career potential here and an opportunity for UK children to get an understanding of another culture.

Japanese has always been a language that I have taken pride in learning during school. To deprive students of this experience during their A-level education seems strange and outrageous to me. It is an important, just as is any other language, to give students the choice to learn at higher level.
