It would be short-sighted mistake to cancel this qualification and deny young UK students the wonders of Japan and its language.

I have been learning japanese for a year as my second language. I first chose it because I loved manga, and the culture interested me. Also it's an amazing and unusual language to learn. Myself and my classmates have came to love and enjoy the language, most of us preferring it to French. It's unfair that we would be unable to get the freedom to do the exam for a language we enjoy.
It's an extremely fun language to learn, and one that I believe could help us in the future. Also I find Japanese a lot more easy to French, as I have a lot more interest in it.
So please, bring A-Level Japanese back.

I'm in year 7 and just started Japanese, I never thought I would find one language so fun and interesting. Being able to do it for A level would be wonderful, This can't be lost, I love it too much. :(

why are they taking it away it is given dyslexia children like me able to learn a language.

I really love learning Japanese, as do my classmates. Its unfair that so many students learning Japanese have to suffer as well as the teachers teaching it. I'm in year 7 so haven't even been learning Japanese for a year yet, its the one subject I truly enjoy and I learn something new about the language and/or culture every lesson. Im really upset about this situation as its the only subject I had in mind for A levels. Everyone should sign this as so mant students/teachers are going to suffer and all those children who appealed to get into my school simply to learn Japanese have been disappointed as it has been discontinued.

I am really upset with this news for many reasons! My school teaches Japanese and many students chose it because of this. The fact that they won't be able to study it will surely disappoint them. I'm sure many others like me will want to take japanese for A level and not having this opportunity is both unfair and outrageous!

I study japanese in year 7 and think it would be great if they brought it back. At my school the are now discontinuing the study of japanese for new students. My teacher will lose his job in a few years also

I am horrified at this decision. Japan is an extremely important country and the language is one of the most challenging. This decision seems to be short-sighted and insular and would be a pointer as to why Britain is falling so woefully behind in the international educational league lists. Links with Japan are immensely important from every point of view. We have many Japanese friends and understanding of their language and culture is much to be both valued and studied.
This decision should be reversed - I can see no sense in it at all.

Japanese is an important international language; it's also fun to learn with many layers. There is also relevance for students also studying a Chinese language or who may wish to go on to learn one as Japanese can open up the writing system for them.

I have just chosen Japanese as my language at GCSE, as I really enjoy it and I have an amazing teacher. I was already planning to take this, one of my favourite subjects onto A-Level. I am really upset that this opportunity has been taken from me and I am willing to fight to get it back.

While my daughter has found other languages dull and uninteresting, Japanese caught her imagination from the very beginning. She has an exceptional teacher at a state grammar school who is more than willing to continue teaching to A-Level. This important opportunity must not be snatched way from her. I am furious!

In the interest of variety and further benefiting the commercial and diplomatic relations between UK and Japan, we need students - future professionals - to be able to speak the language at a high level. The path starts at school, with GCSE.
