Keep Heritage Dog Park an off-leash area for dogs

Please keep this a leash-free park.

We need a park like this for our furry friends in the EAST END

Off-leash dog parks are an integral park of the community, in the same way other public parks and spaces are. They allow dogs to socialize with people and other dogs, which can make them friendlier (and safer) dogs overall. They can also be a great place for owners to socialize and get to know their neighbours. Dog parks help build safer and closer communities. Please keep community access to off-leash dog parks available, including Orleans' only off-leash dog park, Heritage Park.

There aren’t that many quality spaces for dogs as it is, and a small fenced in run for a popular spot will cause more issues than not for dogs.

We do not have a lot of off leash dog park lets keep the one we do have. Please.

Dogs should be expanded, not removed.

I visit this park daily with my dogs, there are so many other parks where another ball diamond can be built.do the right thing and leave this one for the dogs

I’m disabled and I require having a safe place to let my dog off leash to run and socialize with other dogs. I recently moved to the area and this off-leash park was a decision factor in moving. I would be heartbroken and rather inconvenienced of things had to change. Thanks.

This is healthy for the dogs and such an enjoyable and social activity for dogs and owners

We love the dog park as it is. The alternative suggested at Barrington Park would be like putting our dog in a fenced- in pen.

This should be kept as an off leash park for people and for the dogs who are there. The owners are very respectful and have their dogs under close supervision.

This park is enjoyed by so many. Don't take this away from the dog community. Dog time and play is essential for their health and well being. Walks on leash are for but just don't compare to running and socializing.

I can't believe you want to switch this to a on leash park. This is where great dog owners meet and their dogs have a great time off leash playing.

Should remain an off leash park

There are tons of parks, baseball diamonds, and soccer fields for kids and sports activities. There are no other suitable places for off-leash dogs parks, leave this one for our dogs.

We have been going there for 7 years and it has won friendliest dog park in the city. Orleans does not have any other convenient off leash parks that offer the trail and the play area. There are lots of parks for kids and activities leave this one to the furry members of the family

Having recently (June 8,2018) had our Dog Park re-designated as an on-leash park, without consultation with the community. It was unsigned for 12 years, giving it off-leash status as per city of ottawa regulations. I requested proper process be followed through Mr Monette,( Councillor for the area). This request was handed off to other individuals in Park and Bylaw only to result in complaints from bylaw and a subsequent fine of having a dog off leash. After which 53 residents within 500 metres of the park requested the fenced area of the ball diamond at Joe Jamieson park be designated off leash, as it has been for 12 years. The request was denied by one, Dan Chenier of the City of Ottawa. His main reasoning being "The Department does not support the designation of the baseball field at Joe Jamieson Park as a dogs off leash area. The diamond at this park is extensively used by Orleans Little League most nights of the week for the entire season. The league relies on this location, and diamonds at Heritage Park, for their games" To which I responded the OLL is not part of the application process. There is a problem with the parks department and I truly appreciate an individual such as Mr Mitic, ability to bring that forward. The parks are for the community the their pets and their pleasure and enjoyment. Not for the few (640) who choose to visit the parks for what amounts to hours per year. This is a meeting place for so many dog owners and their families. It's a social place. Blackburn has several ball park s that never get used. Why not play there?

Keep Heritage Park an off leash dog park.

We really need more off-leash areas for dogs. It's a really nice nature park and the great thing is that it's not fenced. Let's keep this park off-leash!
