There are too many vacant developments at the moment, and too many un-housed people in Ashland to think about building new houses. Until a development is actually full, there should not be another one.

This, like most “growth” in Hanover County over the last decade plus, is abhorrent and needs to be stopped. It makes one wonder exactly who is profiting - because it certainly isn’t the residents.

We chose to spend the extra money to live in such a quiet neighborhood for a reason. If we wanted a commercialized location we would of chosen one.

As soon as you cross interstate 95 while traveling into Ashland via Route 54 heading west, you will see tons of land on the right with existing abandoned hotels and motels and restaurants. That space is run down & an eye sore, it’s already zoned for commercial use. Instead of destroying nature, why not tear down the old unused businesses there and build it up with all of this. Let’s do things that actually help the whole community of Ashland versus just make new when old could be redone and then it’s a win win for all.

I am fully against any commercial/retail development in this area, as it would be very out of place. There is plenty of vacant commercial real estate in the town of Ashland. We already have enough gas stations and restaurants. We should be rehabbing / rebuilding our dated strip centers that already exist in Ashland before we unnecessarily expand commercial space into a residential area. The “transition” from suburban to rural already exists - as soon as one passes the 2 gas stations on route 54 just east of I95. The proposed commercial portion of this development would not blend well with the existing residential neighborhood, and would look extremely out of place in our beautiful, rural Hanover county. The master plan needs to be amended to designate this land is residential. I am not opposed to residential development in this area.

I moved to Hanover and to my specific neighborhood with Hanover’s future plans in mind, and to move forward with this rezoning is a breach of my trust and faith in the Board of Supervisors and their stated interest to serve its residents.
