One of the only councils I've lived in around Australia that don't do bi-annual kerbside pickups or give you free tip vouchers and now they want to charge you more for doing the right thing and recycling. Shame on them.

Great, so now we'll get people dumping their green waste anywhere, including on my rural nature strip. What a ludicrous idea. We don't even get hard rubbish collections like they have in the metro areas, and they are even going to start charging for metals including aluminium cans, when everywhere else they are setting up recycling stations that actually pay you to recycle, rather than penalise you. Good old MRSC at its best. Yawn

This decision is both flawed and counterproductive, and should be reversed.
Flawed because there was no community consultation.
And counterproductive because making responsible green waste disposal more expensive will only incentivise and encourage the illegal dumping of green waste, to the detriment of our municipality and region.
It’s not too late to alter course. Alternative approaches may include higher fees for commercial quantities, higher fees for general waste (landfill). Any alternative approach should be presented to the community for feedback and guidance.

Having lived here for 40 years we find this to be the single biggest retrograde step that council has placed on its ratepayers. They attempted this years ago and were forced to back down, and if they are successful just wait for the dumping to start. Where is the "service to ratepayers" to keep bringing green waste in to be processed for recycling? We are obviously being forgotten in the name of profit!
Large population increases in this shire means greater rates income to provide services to our community but this green waste issue will quell any advances that have been made.
Are we to become garbage town as already hard pressed families find balancing their homes budgets increasingly difficult as more council charges arise to test their resolve and continuance.
The responsibility for green cleanliness in our shire will now squarely rest with councils ill thought out actions in this matter.
I think we all understand that times are tough but this is definitely not the time to start charging for green waste as the current system has worked excellently, so to quote the saying " If it ain't broke then don't fix it"!
If we currently contract the work out then maybe its time we bought our own mulcher to use between the transfer station sites with council staff? It would certainly payoff in the future! I look forward to a successful petition!

We live in a fire danger area and encouraging people to clear fuel off properties via free green waste is common sense. Maintaining this service should be a high priority given the devastating consequences of fire, excessive burn offs and illegal dumping
