There's no point. We have plenty of social groups that cater to plenty of different types of people.

This shouldn't be a petition thing. Greek life should be like any other group, club or activity at any college. If you'd like to participate, then beautiful. If not, then keep walking.
Some of you all are making it seem as if SCAD is too good or above any other college with fraternity or sorority opportunities. People have the stereotypical outlook on Greek life based off social media and television that all you do is have parties, get drunk, and haze students. Which isn't all that true. Just like anywhere you'd have bad people in the organization who give them a bad rep. You have Greek life that are mainly social and collegiate and you have greek life who are mostly community who do amazing things in the community that go unrecognized sometimes.
Coming from an area where Greek life is large role in the community and both my parents are members of Greek life, Greek life is special.
I'm willing to bet the ones who are being quick to down the idea of it, have 1) never even been exposed to Greek life, TRUE Greek life. 2) are socially disinclined 3) don't like the idea of something new to the school.
Just my thoughts. *shrugs*

hell to the no. we have to many problems at scad as it is. yes some can be good but I can only see bad coming from this.

I chose SCAD for it's professional atmosphere and the fact it doesn't attempt to "hold your hand" like most other schools do. The art world is tough. If you want to network, find friends, volunteer, and succeed in such a cut throat industry, you have to be mature and proactive and do things yourself. Everything that is being advertised in greek life, (a sense of "community", Collaboration, Networking) are things that I easily accomplished on my own using SCADs existing assets.
SCAD has a variety of clubs and activities that make it easy to collaborate cross-major and network with people who share interests- you just have to take advantage of them. Everything Greek offers (and more) is already offered in SCADs current state.
I think treating students as professional adults in their field (like SCAD does) ultimately better prepares us for a realistic life and gives us a better chance at thriving without being babied.
No one comes to SCAD for "the college experience". This school costs too damn much for that, and takes too much time and dedication to do it right. We came because SCAD knows how to create capable, talented, professional adults. We came because the teachers here know their stuff. Finally we came because we are passionate and serious about our education and our future.
Keep Greek Life out of SCAD- the last thing we need is to spit out graduates that can't succeed on their own, and depend on a paid group for connections and friendship. We have a reputation to uphold here.

I am all about broadening the spectrum of experiences that will come with SCAD, but this isn't one of them. Networking, bonding and volunteering can be done without Greek Life. It's a bit humorous that it's gotten to go this far, that we need a petition. This coming from an older freshmen, let's keep it out.

On a purely practical level, funding Greek life is impossible for scad. Scad can't even afford to manage all it's campuses at the moment. The city of Savannah would never tolerate the debauchery that Greek life brings. Students claiming they want it because they want to volunteer in the community can join SCAD: Serve. If they aren't willing to do that, then they are not honest and can't be trusted with with responsibilities of Greek life and would only cost SCAD, and the student body immensely in money and difficulties

I must admit it is strange going to a school that has no greek life, but it's really relaxing knowing there aren't douchey frat guys and dumb delta bimbos walking around our town. Savannah doesn't need that. Art is what's important here. This isn't high school, we don't need people competing for popularity.
