No! That would be awful! I like SCAD just how it is. There's plenty of stuff to do at SCAD all the time, we don't need frats and sororities. I'm very against the idea. No way!

NO! NO! NO! We, the artists, students and soon to be professionals do NOT wish to desecrate our wonderful school and experience with this utter idiocy. If you are so set on "greek life" go to another school. Leave SCAD the way it is!!

One of the huge contributing factors to my decision in coming to scad was the fact that there is no Greek life. I do not want this kind of environment in SCAD.

Pretty much every study done, ever, says that Greek organizations hurt students academically and impair them socially (eg -- promotes a sense of entitlement). SCAD is supposed to be professional, isn't it? Greek Life is the opposite of that.

Do you want Greek Life at SCAD? No? Well, apparently some freshmen this year are trying to get it started. The following link is for an Anti-Greek Life petition for our SCAD community. One of the main reasons why I fell in love with this place was because it did not have fraternities nor sororities. We already have a pretty "rage"ing party area within our campus, which is what the freshmen really do not understand because they have been given the BS that SCAD feeds everyone on tours. Personally, if they want the Greek Life still when they get here, they can still try and fight for it, give in to the atmosphere we already have, or transfer to another school. I do think this will die down, especially since most of them have not even begun their life on campus nor do they know what they are about to experience. But, I was raised by my mother well enough to know that a good fight for what we believe is pretty fun.

I picked this school so I didn't have to deal with fraternities and sororities. When you pick a school you want to go to, you should look into all aspects and if you don't like something, you shouldn't attend.

Fraternities do not promote a strong sense of community outside of the circle of the fraternity. Rivalries between fraternities are very common at colleges that feature them, which only serves to create unnecessary drama

Look these are freshmen. They haven't even been here yet, haven't gone to fall fest or done volunteer work at film fest or anything. They haven't gotten to see and be a part of the community yet and they're already trying to establish something. It would be different if it were a junior or sophomore starting it if they didn't feel that clubs were not doing a good enough job of making a community among students. These guys literally have no experience with SCAD. Sure sororities and frats aren't bad in practice (though the stereotype is a very poisonous one) but the volunteering that they do? Lots of groups do that. THERE'S A GROUP DEDICATED TO VOLUNTEERING (see: SCAD Serve). I think this is a bad idea because they need to get here first before making a decision like that.
