Keep German in Council Rock

Just came back from Germany wish I was taught the language had to use my translator app and I'm in the council rock district

All German has ever done for me is open doors, expand my world, and enrich my life. Depriving tomorrow's kids of those sorts of opportunities, without reason, would be a tragedy. Keep it in the curriculum.

I have seen the positive impact of this program on my own sibling. He fell in love with the language and culture and is currently pursuing his masters in Germanic studies. Without this program he may not have found his passion.

The rest of the worlds children grow up learning multiple languages. American school systems have very few language programs as it is. Please don't take away another.

Removing these opportunities from students' language learning experience would be irreparable. We have the GAPP program at our school as well and it is one of the main reasons students love learning German so much. The cultural exchange that takes place when the German students come here in the spring and ours go there in the summer is irreplaceable.

This program changed my life and I don't mean this figuratively. I left CRS wanting to do something in German. I had direction and the tools to do it. I chose the path of a German Teacher and I love my job and the fact that I am writing this comment from Germany with 16 wide-eyed American Students on our school's 27th GAPP exchange program says it all. If the administration wants to have classes that are more full, then bring back the exploratory program in 7th grade. Do something proactive and profound and don't simply follow in the steps of a neighboring school district. By my account, you have dual certified tenured teachers and all the text books that you need. So please tell us how this would be a financial or even moderately logical decision. Yes, we live in a globalized world, where English is a common tongue, but that only gets you so far. Don't you think it would be helpful to give our students the ability to learn a language of a country that has a very large footprint of international businesses, both here and overseas? Don't you think it'd be wise to nurture students capable of truly communicating with a country that is an economical power house? You're better than this, Council Rock.

My fondest memories of high school were from my German classes at CRHS. I was even an exchange student in 1983. Please don't take this away from the students.

This is the only language with an exchange program. The value we give our children by exposing them to other cultures is priceless!

As a CR resident I support the continued offering of German. 2 of my children are currently enrolled in Honors German and 1 more that hopefully will be able to take it in the future.

In a district the magnitude of ours, we need courses to offer to all our students who wish to enroll.

Removing this language from CR's offerings seems a ridiculous idea to me. The offerings were already sparse compared to many other high schools I have encountered.

Herman remains the language of science and technology. Students who study German have a distinct advantage in those fields.

Facility in languages has a proven benefit in learning other complex subjects like sciences, computer coding, higher math and others. We should be expanding our language programs not shrinking them. It's short sighted to think this is just about language.

These adventures can be such a rewarding memory to the hearts of their souls. Taking away those opportunities would be a travesty in the Highest. Please, please, please don't let their future be diminished by the failure to see the goodness of other cultures. If more of these experiences would of occurred earlier in time, maybe, just maybe the problems we are dealing with now would not be so severe.

Why eliminate a world language in our increasingly global society?

Both of my children are former German students at Council Rock, one teaches German. German encouraged my children to study other cultures and languages, but German is their favorite! Please keep German!

My sister and I were both in the German program at CR South. I took German for five years and I never regretted taking it. It's provided me with a knowledge of language and culture that I would never have gained otherwise. It has also provided me with the opportunity to host and meet German students. In my senior year, my family participated in the German exchange program by hosting two German students. I still keep in contact with the girl I hosted and it's been three years. I am friends with both girls on Facebook. It was one of the most incredible and enlightening experiences and has encouraged me to continue trying to improve my German even though I do not have the chance to take German classes. Additionally, German is a fascinating, wonderful language. It is the native language of a great deal of influential literary, scientific, musical, and philosophical minds amongst others. That being said, it'd be such an absolute shame if future Council Rock students were not allowed to have the opportunity to learn this language, to meet and make friends with Germans, and to get to visit Germany and learn about it's culture. It would be such a loss to no longer be able to provide German as a language at Council Rock.

As an alumna of Council Rock's German program, and a current German teacher, I am saddened that this is even a topic. Please keep this language study available for the many decendants of Germans in the Philadelphia area!
